This is an early pattern stock, and is a weaker design than the later ones. They found them prone to cracking. They upgraded the design with more support for the recoil plate. My original stock was cracked in this very spot even though it is the upgraded design that resist cracking more than this product would. This stock is prone to cracking when fired.If I had know this alone I would not have bought this stock. The stock came with no hardware. It would have been nice if the sale post would of had these details. I payed extra to have it finished, and it looks like they used 80 grit sandpaper. The worst part is the wood at the front of the stock is much thicker than my surplus stock, and my barrel band will not properly fit this stock. My surplus handguard is loose, and rattles, as the barrel band does not go far back to properly secure the standard sized handguard. I am unable to use the product.
