Not very happy
This was my first time purchasing from here, and my stock came in pretty scuffed up. It looks like a used gun stock. And the bottom screw on the trigger guard that came with the stock was stripped and won’t stay in. The gun stock is pretty, but overall I’m not impressed and I don’t think I would rec...

stock is a reject from manufacturer
I bought a Boyds stock from Optics because the manufacturer was out of inventory. When you read the info about Boyd stocks they tell you the stock will have flaws in the wood. The one I bought wood make better fire wood. I was looking for a better than plastic stock for my Savage axis II. I wasn't looking for a perfect stock in a field rifle but, this is a real reject. It looks like when they put the finish on it they missed a few spots sanding and the clear coat streaked at color transitions. Very poor quality control or OEM shipped it to secondary supplier. I would highly recommend to wait for Boyd to build one if not in their stock. I might sand it and paint it black to hide the ugly.
Pros:
- good shipping
Cons:
- poor poor quality
Best Used for:
- nothing

Rifle stock
The workmanship is incredible. The fit is perfect. No hassle drop in and run the bolts tight and you are good to go. If you are leery of ordering as I was, take the step, place the order. You will be totally pleased with what you get. This made one old dog happy. I will not hesitate to order my next wood stock from the people.
Pros:
- All good
Cons:
- None

Boyds Prairie Hunter Stock foe Savage Axis Short Action
Wood color on the stock is really nice. I needed to do quite a bit of inletting in the bolt trigger group area. I was expectiong some, but needed to removed i feel was excessive. The magazine catch is made of plastic. It broke when i was torqued the screw to 30 inch lbs with my Fat wrench and it snapped. I ordered the aluminum latch with pillar as well as the metal trigger guard. I also added a MCARBO trigger assemby. I won the rife so i dont mind spending $$$ for the upgrades.

Terrible fit
I'd read some bad reveiws about Boyd's qc lately. Thought I'd roll the dice anyway. Stock would not even begin to fit my savage axis correctly with out some filing and using a small sanding drum on dremel tool. Problem was to much material had been left where the trigger assembly seats into stock. Finally got it all squared away. Havnt had time to check accuracy yet at range, but not looking for great results at this point. Hope I'm wrong. Had a tack driver before switching stocks. Pretty good looking stock on the outside, but accuracy is all that matters. Kinda disappointed with purchase.
Pros:
- Added to appearance
Cons:
- Terrible fit
Would recommend: No
Plug and Play
This is truly a "plug and play" stock. Easy to install. The fit was great. My only complaint would be if Boyd's would have ran across the interior a little with some sandpaper. 4.5 Stars

Misinformed

Beautiful stock
The Boyds stocks are very nice. They are ridgid. I'm my case after installing pillars and bridge beding my accuracy was increased. Laminate stocks however do have a general history of splitting at thr action bolts so I always pillar mine. This is one of 6 that me and the misses have. I do suggest that you test fit the stock before any stock work is done as boyds won't warranty if any modifications are done. A great upgrade to the axis platform
Pros:
- Beautiful rigid accuracy
Cons:
- Heavier than Tupperware
Best Used for:
- Target / Hunting
