Alessandro M.'s Review of Browning OPMOD 7 5/8" Folder Knife Limited Edition - Drop Point Blade, Black

I'm not a guy who spends much on folding knives typically. Anytime I need one for the house, the garage, or the car I would just grab something for less than $10, use it for a bit until it was dull and then toss it. When I saw the new OPMOD Folding Knives though, I thought I'd give them a shot.

Wow. What a world I've been missing. The first thing you'll find when you get this knife is that it comes in a very sleek OPMOD/Browning black box. I keep mine right in that box. When you pull it out, it is SHARP. Too often inexpensive folding knives are fairly dull from the minute you get them, but not this knife. The handle is lightweight, it's well balanced, and the finger groves make it extremely comfortable to use. After I got it, I took it outside for some landscaping work I had to do.

First off was bundling some branches, as you'd expect cutting through twine, string and rope was no big deal. After that I had to clear out some saplings behind the shed that had taken root. Since it had been a few months, these guys were more than just a tug, I had to get in there and break up the root structure. Once they were dug up, I found some roots had gone under the shed, making it impossible for me to yank it and dig it up. Normally I'd grab my hedge shears for a job like that, but the knife was in my pocket so why not give it a shot? I cut right through the roots without even breaking a sweat. I expect that sort of performance from a 3 inch hunting knife, but not from an inexpensive folder.

After that, I was sold. I ordered 3 more, threw out the crappy knives in my car and at my workbench, and I couldn't be happier.
