Most Helpful Positive Review Excellent Value
I compared this to two other monoculars that I am now returning because this one was so superior. Sure it costs a bit more and the specs are obscure but they are much better than expected. It does not pay to get too cheap, even at this inexpensive level, if you won't like using it. I compared the...

Most Helpful Negative Review disappointing optics
Having read some positive reviews about the optics of this monocular I thought it was worth $25 to find out. It might be good for children, or someone who will use it near water. Other than that, I would save up another $25 and get a Vortex solo (also waterproof) for $50. I would spent $2 for a bo...

remarkable optic so very overlooked

by barium, from NJ, United States Written on October 16, 2017
here I am with my 4th review just a few days after my 3rd. can't think of enough good things to say about this remarkable little monocular. I have several optics I've purchased over the years some fairly expensive but this rubber armored little doodad is my most prized one. a negative I suppose could be the limited focus range but for me it's not a great problem. the brunton lite-tech monocular is so overlooked. I'm not sure why. the image through it is so vivid because of the emerald fire multi-coating. and it's difficult to find anything this good with the brunton lite-tech minoc's particular specs. an 8x21 range minoc with BaK-4 glass and such and exceptional optical multi-coating at such a cheap price. there doesn't appear to be anything else like it that I can find. the minox md 8x16 metalic minoc is interesting but a 16mm opjective is too small.
Pros:
  • sharp vivid image
Cons:
  • None
Best Used for:
  • general terrestrial, scenic nature viewing
Would recommend: Yes

a much underappreciated monocular

by barium, from NJ, United States Written on October 12, 2017
this is my 3rd review. All I see in regards to the brunton 8x22 lite-tech monocular are negative reviews. it's really quite underrated. don't use it all that much, keep it in it's pouch to protect I prize it so much. broke it out today to confirm my initial impression that it's great. my vision is off, maybe that's why it works so well for me. the resolution and sharpness looks fantastic to my eye. in the coming years I think the brunton lite-tech monocular will come to be regarded as a very overlooked exceptional little optic. better grab these up as brunton no longer makes optical equipment.
anyway, that's my opinion.
Pros:
  • great optics in a compact form
Cons:
  • None
Best Used for:
  • terrestrial nature viewing

Just OK for a while .. but did not hold up

by Woodsman, from MD, United States Written on January 17, 2017
This monocular lasted a couple seasons and during then then image quality was poor compared to other similar units I have used. The ocular adjustment was always stiff and hard to get into focus. This hunting season the image went from 'not so good' to unusable - and I'm not sure why.. I did not abuse it and now the insides ( lenses and components ) are rattling around in there. It's dead..
Pros:
  • Cheap
  • rubber armor body
Cons:
  • Image Adjustment
  • image quality
  • delicate
  • not rugged

outstanding little optic

by barium, from WI, United States Written on October 17, 2015
this is my 2nd review of the brunton lite-tech 8x22 monocular. it's truly a shame this extraordinary little optic has gotten such an underserved bad rep. it's true the focus is very limited but beyond that it's a great little monocular. I am blown away everytime I look through it by the high contrast image it provides. three factors combine for the outstanding image, quality lenses, bak-4 prism glass and brunton's remarkable emerald fire multi-coating. the emerald fire coating is enough by itself to recommend a brunton optic and while the brunton lite-tech monocular has no o-rings or nitrogen it's physical durability is remarkable. tough and robust. sure to be a prized collector's item once they're no longer available. I got mine!

brunton lite tech 8x22 a pretty good monocular

by barium, from WI, United States Written on November 4, 2014
not bad. not bad at all. only minor deficit is focus range but my vision is off anyway so it kinda helps. provides a very bright high contrast image which I found impressive for a monocular with only a 22mm objective lens. quite a sturdy little optic. if your into birding or just general nature viewing your gonna love the brunton lite tech out in the field. nothing flimsy about the included case either, in fact, it's quite well-made.
Best Used for:
  • outdoor nature viewing

Brunton lite-tech 8x22 monocular

by Legacy Reviewer, Verified Owner Written on February 12, 2011
bought two (2). The first one lasted just a week when it's eyepiece was detached from the body when my son tried to take the monocular from my pocket. The second one is still intact because I haven't used it all.
Pros: clear optics, handy, light,
Cons: fragile, low quality, squeaky eyepiece adjuster

Short Update

by Legacy Reviewer, Verified Owner from CA, United States Written on October 1, 2010
Just a quick update to my earlier review. There is one limitation that I've noticed with this monocular: The focus is limited only to the eyepiece and is not much. So don't expect to focus in on anything closer than 10 feet because this will not do that well. But it is tough, compact and so portable that it is still a great hiking companion to have handy.
Pros: Solid, easy to use, clear optics
Cons: limited focusing ability

Nice and handy for backpacking travel

by Legacy Reviewer, from WA, United States Written on September 20, 2010
Yes, it is compact and light. Just what i need for my backpacking travel. Nitrogen filled gives me less worry to use it in the monsoon rain.
