jeff's Review of Burris XTR II 8-40x 50mm Rifle Scope 34mm Tube Second Focal Plane SFP
The XTR-II 8-40x is a great precision rimfire scope for 100yd bench rest and beyond. I have two, one on a 17HMR and the other a .22. I don't shoot PRS or NRL and know the 1/10 MOA clicks and lack of FFP may not make it ideal for that but for normal precision shooting, the XTR's fine F-Class DCF reticle is super-fine and very precise.
The clicks are positive, scope comes with nice covers and a sunshade, and I like very fine at 1/8 or 1/10 MOA (depending on which spec you read). Glass is high quality though focus/clarity at 40x isn't as forgiving as the slightly lower power settings but overall, excellent to see hits on paper at 100yds without a spotting scope.

Pros:
- good value for $
- excellent power range
- 34mm tube provides much travel up/down
- 40x means no need for spotting scope to see shots
Cons:
- glass/image quality at 40x not super clear compared to lower power
Best Used for:
- precision shooting on paper or steel
