bwilso20's Review of Burris Fullfield 3-12x42mm 1in Tube Riflescope

After spending several weeks testing, the Burris Fullfield 3–12×42, I can confidently say it strikes a solid balance between clarity, performance, and value. I’ve used a wide range of optics in both hunting and range settings, and this scope easily holds its own against higher-priced competitors.
Mounting and zeroing the Fullfield were smooth and intuitive. The scope’s solid construction made alignment easy, and the included instructions were clear. I was impressed with how quickly I achieved a tight zero within a few rounds and the reticle adjustment was responsive with tactile, repeatable clicks. The turrets have a nice resistance that prevents accidental movement in the field but are still easy to fine-tune.
In terms of shootability, the Fullfield shines. The eye relief is generous, allowing a comfortable shooting position. The magnification range (3–12×) provides flexibility, 3× is perfect for quick shots in tight cover, while 12× gives excellent clarity out to 300 yards. The Advanced Exposed Synergy (AE) knob paired with the Burris app and zero-stop makes real-world hold/dial workflows straightforward, you can quickly generate holdover or dial recommendations in the app, then set the knob or use the reticle holds as needed. The glass is crisp, with impressive light transmission in low-light conditions like dawn or dusk. While this model doesn’t include digital features like picture-in-picture or onboard rangefinding, its simplicity and optical precision make it a shooter’s scope in the truest sense.
The matte finish resists scratches, and it shrugged off light rain and temperature swings without fogging or losing zero. It’s compact enough for field carry but tough enough to handle recoil from larger calibers (I mounted on a .308 Win). Whether mounted on a deer rifle or a coyote setup, it feels versatile and dependable.
For the cost, the Fullfield 3–12×42 delivers exceptional value. You get a scope that performs like optics twice its price point. The glass clarity, build quality, and reliable turret mechanics make it a standout in the midrange market. For hunters and shooters wanting pro-grade performance without breaking the bank, this optic is an easy recommendation.
As someone who has spent years testing hunting optics, from budget scopes to top-tier thermals, I’m impressed with how Burris continues to refine the Fullfield line. The 3–12×42 hits that sweet spot of simplicity, ruggedness, and optical clarity that most hunters want.
