A tripod with extension legs is a must unless you are using it off the hood of your truck; the one that comes with the scope is short and flimsy. Straight view is definite advantage when trying to find objects that you first spot with binoculars. This scope is on the heavy side but works fine. Recommendation depends on how much money you have and how much you want to pack. Probably better scopes out there but as entry level it does the trick.

This scope does exactly what I wanted. My son and I shoot a .17HMR at 50 and 100 yards. We can see the small holes this bullet makes at 100 yards. We can clearly see the numbers on the target that are only 3/16" high at 100 yards. The accompaning tripod is sturdy enough for our use and the 2 speed focus works quite well. The power adjustment is pretty stiff but it is not something that we need to change very often. Overall I am very pleased with this purchase. P.S. normally after I buy something the price drops dramaticly so get ready!! ........RB

Overall a nice spotting scope. Originally ordered the 12-36x50 with a 45 degree eyepiece, but it was sold out. I'm not a big fan of the straight eye-piece, but the quality of the image coming from the scope makes me forget that minor inconvenience. The detail level at full magnification is surprisingly good!
Pros: Compact, good 2-stage focus
Cons: Tripod a bit flimsy, but they all are..

Nice compact spotting scope for the price. Image is clear and clear with good contrast. Color is very vivid. Could be little brighter compare to Prostaff. Eye relief is better than most spotting at this price range. Yes, there is problem, the over all image has little yellowish color to it. It maybe just the one I got. Opticsplanet customer servive is top rate. Thanks.

Used it at 100 and 200 yds at the range and had no problem seeing 243 bullet holes. In the field looking for trophy goats it was very effective at about 600-700 yards. Only weakness is the tripod it came with. That said i also bought the Alpen micro adjustable benchtop tripod which was great when scanning several targets at the range. However, even the Alpen like the free tripod was a bit shaky like the at higher magnification. It was difficult to use even the fine focus on the scope as the image was being shaken too much by the touch of the adjusting finger - all due to the tripod not being solid enough.
Pros: Very clear glass. No edge distortion
Cons: Tripod
