Most Helpful Positive Review Excellant Overall
Only negative I can see from using this item is that the compass arrow which is supposed to point back to your starting point (as the crow flies),wanderes in all directions sometimes, not in all cases. You may have to walk about ten steps in each direction till you notice the yardage or mileage begi...

Most Helpful Negative Review It's not what it could be.
I used it hunting. The yardage from one point to another worked great, but the arrow didn't nor did the compus. It didn't seam to mater how many times I tumbled it or did the figure eight. The thermometer takes forever to adjust to the correct temperture. Pros: Yardage from point to point Cons: I co...

Great little tracker

by Legacy Reviewer, Verified Owner Written on September 12, 2011
Purchased the item as a lark. I use GPS quite a bit and got this as a back up should something go wrong with my hand units i.e. battery failure. I have only used it on two occasions and it worked well. Quite easy to use once you get your initial position.
Pros: Ease of use

Bushnell BackTracker Point 5

by Legacy Reviewer, Verified Owner from SC, United States Written on April 11, 2011
I purchased one of the Bushnell Point 5 GPS for use in new areas we are sent to. The 5 waypoint locations are ideal for use in Malls, Flea Markets, downtown, or parking your car in an unfamiliar area. It will guide you back to your first waypoint where you started from. The only problem I encountered was the compass was inaccurate, North and South was precise but East and West was reversed. After several various compasses, the directions were inaccurate. A Radio Tech for our two-way radio base station said we had MAGNETIC INTERFERRENCE at our location. We tested the unit again 5 miles down the road and it worked perfect! When we go out now and have to depend on our GPS, car or Portable, we take along a Military Grade Compass also. (Just in case there are more magnetic fields where we are going). Our rating is a straight 5 and do recommend it to campers, hunters and outdoor entusiasts. Thumbs up!!! *****
Pros: Excellent "on-foot" GPS. Tried to get lost but, you can't fool this device!

Never Got It To Work!

by Legacy Reviewer, Verified Owner from TX, United States Written on April 3, 2011
It's a great idea, but it just doesn't work. I tried recalibrating it numerous times, all to no avail. The only thing it will consistently do right is show the correct Lat / Lon (eventually!).
Pros: Lat / Lon are accurate
Cons: The compass / pointer are consistently wrong

If You Lose Your Car In A Parking Lot

by Legacy Reviewer, Verified Owner from NJ, United States Written on February 6, 2011
Unit has a poorly constructed battery compartment for a high priced electronic item, a very significant battery drain, and irregular readings. It basically does work as a locator and easy to use. May be good for those who are making holiday in a foreign city as you can mark your hotel location and if you become disoriented find your way back, however keep a supply of batteries on hand this thing goes through them in no time.
Pros: Ease Of Use
Cons: Battery draining display stability
Would recommend: No

Finding One's Way

by Legacy Reviewer, Verified Owner from NJ, United States Written on January 10, 2011
The battery compartment latch is flimsy and broke off the first time trying to open, however it is redundant and can be closed without it. The unit will go off in five minutes if a button is not pushed making it nearly impossible to use without re initializing it to the signal. The display can be erratic unless the unit is oriented by moving it around sometimes this still does not capture a signal. When it works it seems to be accurate but may be a cumbersome piece of equipment for some users. The instructions are somewhat simple but not detailed enough especially about opening the battery compartment. The warranty requires a $10.00 postage charge for return.
Pros: directional finding
Cons: needs to constantly be initialized
Would recommend: No
