Great Spotter from Bushnell

by LAViking, from CA, United States Written on October 16, 2023
I have a 4” refractor telescope for the celestial viewing, but for terrestrial glassing this is a really good spotter. Glass is excellent and crisp edge to edge. Coatings are good and color fringing is very controlled with only very mild chromatic aberration at the extreme end of the zoom range. About 55Xish. I took this out to test it’s celestial abilities to view the moon and the closer planets. It can resolve Jupiter’s cloud bands and the 4 largest moons, (Callisto, Ganymede, Io, Europa), Saturn and the ring structure and the Moon craters in vast detail. Mars is a bit smaller, but you can see the disk and orange hue. Terrestrial glassing is exceptional, trees are highly detailed from 100’s of meters away. Birds and animals are clear and identifiable from much further than my binos can detect. I have not yet had it to the range for shooting, but based on what I have already tested, I will likely not be disappointed. Overall I am happy with this scope. I will habit for a long time.
Pros:
  • Crisp field of view across the entire lense.
  • Exceptional color and clarity with no chromatic aberration up to 50X zoom and near zero color fringing to 60X depending the lighting
  • Dual coarse/fine focus dials work very well.
  • Build quality is solid magnesium body with aluminum rings between the sections of the scope
Cons:
  • Zoom knob is firm to turn
Best Used for:
  • Range shooting, birding, hunting and mild astronomy within the close solar system (Moon, Jupiter, Saturn)

Disappointed

by TMNEPA, from PA, United States Written on November 23, 2020
The Nitro seemed like the ideal mid price range choice for spotting targets at the range. It has all the recommended enhancements (low ed glass, fully multi-coated, etc.). All online reviews I read were positive and said the scope should be good out to 300 yards. The problem is a lack of clarity at anything over 100 yards. Bullet holes from my 40-65 and 444 Marlin were indistinguishable at 200 yards, 300 yards is out of the question without shoot-n-see targets. I frankly have a much less expensive Redfield scope that has better clarity. I recommend this product, but only for less clarity intensive activities.
Pros:
  • eye relief
  • adjustable viewing angle
Cons:
  • Stiff focus knob
  • lack of clarity at distance
