Does the job and then some... - Bushnell Prime 1300 6x24 Laser Rangefinder

dustydog's Review of Bushnell Prime 1300 6x24 Laser Rangefinder
I reached the point with my home range where I needed precise distances in order to utilize the compensated ranging data available on Nikon's SpotOn utility, so I started looking for an upgrade to my 100' measuring tape... until I realized this was the perfect excuse to spring for my first laser rangefinder.
Like I always do, I went on a massive research spree, scouring every available spec sheet, review (of which I have learned to view skeptically), local and online retailer, etc. Note that 800 yards is the most I aspire to reach out to with my equipment, so that at least narrowed down the capabilities I needed. Long story short, this Bushnell seemed to be more than capable and at a better price point than some less so.
Note that the one I received is all-black, and as such looks much better to me than the two-tone in the stock photos. The belt-loop attaching carrying case was a nice touch also. More importantly, it has... or at least WILL... save me a lot of walking since I have now confirmed it accuracy via physical measurement via my old 100' tape.
I have only tried the most basic functions, but plan to move on to increased familiarity with the LOADS of features available in this unit. Again, as I always do, I read the instructions FIRST (PLEASE DO), and, for a complete run-down, you must view or download the Bushnell Full PDF Manual by searching for:
bushnell 2019 prime lrf manual 5lim
You should end up with the correct manual as the top result, titled: "Bushnell Prime Laser Rangefinder Owner's Guide" (42 pages). I could try to run through some of the many features here, but I would surely run up against the character limit! Best to check out the manual for yourself. In short, it ranges best against lighter colors (which also makes it easier to see the black reticle). Treat the "Fire" button as you would a trigger for best results: squeeze it gradually while holding the aiming dot as steady as possible on the object you're ranging to, and don't forget to keep it depressed for the short time it takes the unit to display the range.
The only improvement I can imagine for my purposes would be a tripod-mount socket so that you could use something to enhance steadiness when ranging to more distant or smaller objects and, of course, an illuminated aiming dot/circle... which I will guess is NOT HAPPENING in this price range! : )
Pros:
good ergonomics
Compact & light
multi-featured
Cons:
No tripod attachment point
No illuminated reticle
Would Recommend:
Yes
