I reached the point with my home range where I needed precise distances in order to utilize the compensated ranging data available on Nikon's SpotOn utility, so I started looking for an upgrade to my 100' measuring tape... until I realized this was the perfect excuse to spring for my first laser rangefinder.
Like I always do, I went on a massive research spree, scouring every available spec sheet, review (of which I have learned to view skeptically), local and online retailer, etc. Note that 800 yards is the most I aspire to reach out to with my equipment, so that at least narrowed down the capabilities I needed.
