Rascal's Review of Bushnell XRS II 4.5-30x50 Rifle Scope

I purchased this Optic due to 3 good reviews from reviewers i trust. Panhandle Precision, Mark and Sam After Work and Guns America. The scope seems to be built well and it seems robust to the eye test. The glass is definitely a really good quality glass (Japanese i believe). I would say the clarity is on par or nearly on par with my Steiner T5xi 5-25x56 but i would have to compare side by side in more depth and out past the 300 yard tree line i compared them against earlier this month.
I have the H59 reticle as i've wanted that on a long range optic for some time now. The floating center dot is a must IMHO for really precise shooting as it really helps you dial in a good zero and make precise shots at longer ranges on tiny targets. Just my preference so i'm very happy with that kind of reticle. This scope is also lighter than say a Vortex Razor for example so this is definitely something you could take hunting. That comes with a trade off i feel and here are the downsides of this scope The 50mm Objective lens doesn't hold a candle to 56mm objective lenses offered in other top tier, long range optics. The eye relief is really terrible in this Bushnell if i'm being completely honest. You have got to be right on the money for a good site picture. Honestly, the field of view and eye relief in my Vortex Viper PST Gen II 5-25x50 seems better and that has a 30mm tube as opposed to this Bushnell's 34mm tube.
Only reason i wrote this review now instead of after more use and tracking testing etc is because IMHO this scope needs to have a 56mm objective lens to compete with the big boys. I wouldn't buy it again. I'll probably keep it and use it... unless i get to the point where i just can't take the eye relief anymore, if it comes to that. The whole point of getting the H59 reticle was to put this scope on a semi auto, long range precision rifle and be able to make quick adjustments while shooting. The eye relief is so bad and the field of view so limited that i'm not sure i'll be able to take full advantage of the H59 reticle in this scope.
Pros:
  • exceptional glass, lighter weight, FFP, Horus reticle, seems robust, build quality looks high
Cons:
  • 50mm objective lens is too small, no illumination with H59 reticle, warranty not lifetime
Best Used for:
  • ELR shooting, hunting
