Does not fit in S&W MP10

Written on Mar 10, 2021

Does not fit in S&W MP10. I guess the MP10 is a rifle, not a carbine. My bad.

However, the spring's coating was indeed smooth. The tensile spring action was slightly stiffer than my OEM spring and my spring only has about 50 rounds through it.

Does not work in S&W MP10

Written on Mar 10, 2021

Repeat, this charging handle does not work in the S&W MP10.

The build quality of the release mechanism looks decent but the overall strength of the rod is not as beefy as an OEM handle.
That's worth about four stars.

BUT...

I gave it a three because manufacturers of firearm parts should actually test and list which models and makes are compatible. Instead the consumer spends hours of searching in vain for information on the internet and ends up buying and returning.

Bad business Next Level.

You get what you pay for

Written on Dec 17, 2019

Ignoring the tried and true notion of getting what you paid for, I tried to cheap out and get as much bang for the least buck. Big mistake with this mount. There is a reason the quick detach mounts are way more expensive than regular ones and it was in that mechanism that this product failed.

One of the clamp bolts threads stripped during tightening/latching of the initial install. The design of the latch and the way it applies tension during tightening makes it difficult to find a decent sweet spot of tightness so you can latch and undo the latch...which is it's intended purpose. Also, after unlatching, the relatching needs more more adjustment because it doesn't keep it's originally set tension.

Finally, after giving up on the QD and shopping for regular two-ring mounts, I read reviews of the Weaver tactical rings that are the same price. One of the reviewers mentioned that they have strong, square-shaped clamp bolts and that was a feature to look for. They are stronger and prevent foward/rearward shift in the picatinny slots.

So I'm going with the Weavers.

Cheap brittle plastic

Written on Dec 07, 2019

I ended up returning this item and got a solid polyurethane upper vice block and an aluminum pin-type lower vice block on Ebay for a little more. The polyurethane is much stronger yet it's surface is softer than this cheap polycarbonate plastic.

I'm not sure which is better: by securing the upper by the takedown pins or by clamping the assembly from the outside, but the pin type is working just fine for me. There is no movement with it whereas the clamping one had a little play.

Worth the extra dough

Like the other reviewers, I did extensive research as well and went with this BCG, the JPSCS2-9-5H2 Silent captured spring, Spikes upper and 9mm dedicated lower with a Faxon 10.5".

Love it.

Sadly, JP doesn't currently make a .45 version and after talking to one of their techs, none of their springs/buffers are recommended for the heavy recoil of that round. Still doing homework on that application.

Great value

For the price you get a lot of bang for your buck. The trigger group is great quality even if it is a standard mil spec pull weight. The lower parts are decent...not as robust as others I've used but they function fine. I have installed several of these kits and the black finish color varies a little so the takedown pins and/or mag release may not match your lower perfectly. All the installs I did were in Anderson lowers.

The grip is awful, but I use Ergo and Magpul K2 plus anyway. The aluminum trigger guard is fine, but I usually toss those too for something with more room. Besides those two items, to get the parts kit and fire control for under $50 is a great deal.

Spend a little more for better quality

The tiny allen head screws strip easily with a moderate amount of tightening. hopefully these pins will never come loose or that I never need to drill them out to service the trigger.

Worst of all, I don't want to damage my rifle removing them for a return so I'm stuck with them.

I'm trying the Armaspec next but I think the torx head type is probably the solution.
