Great YHM Addition
Written on Mar 08, 2025
My reason for purchasing this deflector was more for aesthetics. It currently has a home on my suppressor host PSA DOE 9mm pistol which looks great when attached. While testing it out on the range, my colleague was shooting his 11.5" SBR with a YHM Phantom brake. Like all tanker style brakes they are extremely loud especially for those to the left and right. In some cases they can be so loud you can feel the sound rattle your organs. So I got his attention, removed my deflector of the DOE, he smiled and I told him to please use this.
Low and behold it did what it was designed to do. Directing most of the sound forward and eliminating the lateral shockwave associated with brakes. That being said, when you're not running a suppressor on your firearm and you have a YHM muzzle brake or flash hider, I really do recommend acquiring one of these. I like this attachment so much I plan on getting one for every firearm I have that uses a YHM muzzle device.

It Works...

My AR9 was doubling a little bit and I experienced an OBD due to bolt bounce several years ago. This prompted me to look for ways to mitigate these issues. After combing the internet and the forums I came across many AR9 owners. One specifically by the handle of 'Blowback9'. His years of experience, research and practical applications on optimizing the AR9 lead to this purchase.
Well long story short, those who have used this buffer were right. Felt recoil was reduced, no doubling and no OBDs occurred after install and test fire. Most will say that the Blitzkrieg 2.5oz spacer should be used in tandem with this buffer, but I tested without the spacer and it still worked. But as always, err on the side of caution and run this buffer with the spacer, or purchase a heavier bolt.
Now the con. There's only one really. Since the buffer is about half an inch longer than a standard buffer then adding the thickness of the spacer, your bolt will not fully reciprocate into the buffer tube. This will not effect feeding or ejection of casings, but it will negate your last round bolt hold open feature/manual BHO lever. If this annoys you, this can be rectified by purchasing an A5 buffer tube. These tubes are a little longer than your standard carbine tube. This allows the buffer, spacer and bolt to travel further back thus allowing BHO features to work.
Yes I know all this seems like a chore, but when dealing with the AR9s it truly is a balancing act. If you want more in depth explanati
