The Aimpoint Pro Patrol is my favorite red dot sight because of a few reasons.
First, you're getting a quality product that is going to work for you when you need it to. Realistically you're going to own this for a long time, so don't cut corners and buy something that will fail you when you need it most. Consider a failure of a red dot sight... not only do you have to replace it, but each time you miss it's going to cost you $.30 to $.50, and that adds up over time.
Next, and very important to me is the dot. I have several other "nice" red dots but what I've noticed is what I call "dot fur" that seems to be especially popular in Eotech models. This just drives me crazy on the thought of spending $500-600 for something and not being able to see what you're shooting at behind the fury dots (adjustment of brightness does not change this on Eotech). The Aimpoint dot is very crisp and defined, allowing you to see your target and make your shot. My effective range on an 8" gong is 240 yards, which isn't bad for a red dot. On closer shots, target acquisition/engagement is good.
Finally, the construction and ease of use makes it the best choice. It is rugged enough that you're not going to break it with a little accidental abuse. The battery life is good, and the ability to adjust the dot intensity is a piece of cake while you're looking through the optic. The best feature is the attachment and detachment. You can put it on and take it back off in under 5 seconds if you
