Best Handguard for the Money

Written on Jun 21, 2026

When buying anything, you try to find the best product for the least amount of money. If you graphed it, one line would be quality and one line would be cost and where those two lines intersect, that would be the ideal option. That's this handguard and all of the Midwest Industries handguards. Unless I'm building a brand specific AR, these handguards are always my first choice to complete the build. I bought this one to complete a 16" barrel "recce" rifle build and it is perfect. You can always find them on sale as well. There are handguards that cost two or three times what this one does that are considered "tier 1" options, but let's be honest. A lot of that cost is for the name. Buy this handguard. You won't be disappointed.

Gold standard

Written on May 30, 2026

As the title says, the Geissele standard lower parts kit is the gold standard of parts kits. Every piece is beautifully machined and fit like gloves. I've used it on multiple different lowers (geissele, BCM, SOLGW, and noveske) and have never had a single issue. Does it cost more than most parts kits? Yes. So the question becomes, is it worth the price? Yes. At least in my opinion because it gives you confidence that everything will function perfectly if the SHTF.

Unmatched Quality and Price Point

Written on May 19, 2026

For my very first AR build, I spent way too long researching, watching videos, reading reviews, talking with manufacturers, etc...much more than I needed to do just to build my first AR. That said, I knew I wanted to build something high-end(ish) that would last forever. The project changed direction a couple of times before I settled on what can arguably be described as a Geissele near-clone Super Duty Mod1 w/16" barrel. Everything but the barrel, gas assembly, and BCG is Geissele. I found this WDR BCG and was blown away. First, as lame as this might be to say, it's absolutely beautiful. The nickel boron coating with the satin nickel finish is almost like a mirror. It's glass smooth and cleaning is the easiest I've ever done. It looks incredible in my build. Second, the quality is absolutely on point. I haven't put a lot of rounds through it yet, but cycling, strikes, and smooth operation were noticeably great. The gas key is innovatively staked with OCKS screws and very secure. You will not be disappointed. Third, the price point is nearly unmatched for the quality of this BCG. I suggest going to the WDR site and looking through their small, but very upscale catalog. These guys are producing incredible BCGs at a very affordable price point. Fourth, it's a great company that stands behind their products. I reached out to them and traded a couple of emails with Drew Walker, who is the president of WDR. He was incredibly helpful and even offered a suggestion on a different, bu

Great set of DD furniture (minus the foregrip)

Written on Apr 27, 2026

I wanted some new furniture for a higher end AR I was putting together and bought this set. The lower is a Colt lower and the stock and pistol grip fit perfectly. It is a very dark brown, but looks incredible against the black lower. The upper is a Geissele 14.5" super duty in the desert dirt color (DDC), so the two colors (the furniture and the upper) come nowhere close to matching, but it still looks badass. And it's really hard to put into words, but the stock and pistol grip feel so much more solid on the lower than the original Colt furniture. It also a hole in the stock that accepts a QD quick connect for a sling attachment. The foregrip? Pretty useless in my opinion. DD needs to come out with a minimalist hand/grip stop that matches the other furniture. Or just leave the foregrip out of this package and charge $20 less. That said, it looks like it would be loose or rattle somewhat when installed, but the way it attaches gives you a very solid fore end grip. If you like vertical foregrips, you won't be disappointed in this one.

The stock and pistol grip are definitely FIVE STAR products individually, but I'm giving this package four because of the useless foregrip and the additional cost it adds to the package..
