Most stubborn barrel nuts

Written on Apr 10, 2025

I used this to remove one of the most stubborn barrel nuts I have encountered. It may not be “required” but if you tinker around ARs enough. You will eventually need this tool. If you only build one upper? It is probably a bit extreme. If you like to swap out handguards when new ones hit the market. This will help keep your barrel and upper from getting trashed.

Use with can

Yes it is a 4 prong flash hider. Everyone at this point should know it makes a “ting” sound as the bullet exits the barrel. If that bothers you. Get something else. This muzzle device was developed to work in tandem with a surefire suppressor. I suspect it is used by the military without a suppressor in a worst case/backup scenario 2 way range.

No bull, the only PROVEN rail.

Written on May 21, 2023

There is nothing wrong with other manufactures rails. Buy what you like. The truth is these DD M4 and MK18 rails earned their reputation on the battlefield. They are heavy, bulky and the mounting system is “old” by todays standards. But the mounting system works. Dropped off the back of a 7 ton, or used to open a stuck latch on an AAV your weapon will still hold acceptable battlefield zero. Or just pick one up for a clone. Stop complaining it is “heavy” go to the gym…

Great block, good value.

Written on May 18, 2023

I don’t have anything negative to say. I have used a bunch of other blocks/vice mounting systems. I needed this one specifically for a troublesome A2 front sight that I couldn’t get to stay still while installing taper pins. This block did the trick. It is hard to have a one size fits all tool while building ARs. I find a use for them all eventually. I like the small parts tray and contrasting colors. When doing AR work at home your work bench can get a little chaotic and the small parts can get away from you at times.

One of the best rails available

Written on Apr 01, 2022

I have put a lot of AR uppers together. Pairing this rail with a build always goes well. Ease of installation and a rock solid mount. Good rail space and I like the front pic rails for using a bipod. There are newer rails out and there are cheaper ones too. This one just works. Pick it up when it goes on sale though!

Brick SH!* House

I really don't know what to say. If you are reading this then you already know SPUHR makes the absolute best mounting system for PRS/Sniper systems. This is not a light weight hunting setup. This is meant to be used on a system when 1/8" at 1k yards means you win or not.

Scope installation easy and repeatable. You know it is level with the included mounting system. Bubble level is a neat feature.

This is as good as it gets until someone starts machining precision 34MM rings into the actual receiver of a rifle.

Well built and Adjustable

Written on Oct 22, 2021

Adjustable gas blocks are one of those things you don't "need" but they can definitely help take your shooting game to the next level during a competition. If you have a slightly gassed up rifle. This can help tune it in. If you have a shorter barrel and running suppressed you may also benefit from this. It can help reduce wear and tear on your internals and give you a slightly better shooting experience, but honestly how many of us outside of a trigger puller are going to use our rifles enough to justify this gas block vs wear and tear on internals? Only you can answer that.

Again you don't need this thing to shoot, or even shoot well. After you use it and setup your rifle it can help fine tune it if that is your thing.

The last scope mount ever...

Written on Dec 11, 2020

Where to start. This thing is built like a brick outhouse. It gives up nothing. Very solid and easy to get the optic squared up with the included tool. The included level is a really nice touch. When you spend big dollars on that high end glass do yourself a favor and just expect to use a SPUHR mount with it. I can't even complain that it is heavy because when you get this in 34MM it is a given that a 34 plus oz scope is going in it so weight isn't an issue.

Seems Well Built

Written on Nov 19, 2020

Well here we are in 2020 with another great ammo shortage. What do we do in these times? We shoot .22LR!!! I still wanted to shoot my pistol but I refuse to use my 9mm ammo for fun. (Training yes, courses yes, just no backyard plinking) So here we have the Advantage Arms G19 Gen 3 kit. I did have some magazine issues at first. Some oil and insertion/removal multiple times seems to have worked things in. Overall its not bad. There are some ammunition restrictions so look into that if you have a stockpile of .22LR that may or may not be on their problem list. It will still shoot, you just may or may not have some feeding issues.

Possibly the best little red dot period!

Written on Nov 12, 2020

It stands out in a market flooded by value oriented red dots! The glass is clear, the dot is sharp, plenty of brightness settings and a lifetime warranty. The only complaint I have is the brightness knob doesn't turn to max brightness strait from off (0). You have to click through the night settings then 1,2,3 etc to 11 (max) This is a minor issue and really the only complaint I have if someone told me I "had" to gripe about something on it. The fix is just leave it on 4 or 5 all the time and replace the battery every year.
