Vortex OPMOD LTD Edition

Written on Feb 24, 2022

I already have a Strike Eagle on another AR and it's terrific for the price point. When Opticsplanet introduced this LTD Edition Color I jumped on it. Color is nice and while it is not a true FDE it goes really well with the Aero FDE upper and mount it was intended for. I bought this Strike Eagle to mount on a SBR for an upcoming 2 day LPVO training, so it has not been put fully through it's paces yet. Glass is great for older eyes and the functions are simple stupid for recreational amateur shooters like myself. Flip up covers are probably not durable for extended hard use, but a nice feature. Some of the markings are going to be reading glass only for anyone with a little bit of age on them but that's normal for all optics and all old eyes.
This is now my 4th Vortex to include a Crossfire II Rimfire on a Savage 22, a Venom on another AR and this is the 2nd Strike Eagle. I also own Trijicon, Leupold, Sig and Nikon optics and the Vortex quality and price point make them irresistible values for my money. Their mounts and rings are also great.
Buy while this color is available, you won't be disappointed. I only give 4 stars because there is always room to improve at any price point.

Cantastic!

Like many shooters I used to just drop mags into a range bag (a converted heavy duty tool bag). Not terribly well organized but could carry what I wanted to have at the range. I have this can in both the 15 mag AR version and a 10 and 10 version with AR mags and double stack hand gun mags. Both are excellent. I personally stick the full mags in head down so they come out properly gripped to go where I want them and I stick the empty ones in head up so you can see its empty without touching it.
I do have an issue with the Pmag dust covers when I bring them. They don't fit in the foam cut out in the method I described above, so I just don't use the covers.
These crates allow full mags to be installed as well as individual boxes of ammo to have more rounds with in in the same container. Plus room for a maglula, etc.

Superb idea

I love the ability to tote 4 cans at once. Not that I need to very often, but it makes storage and transport much easier than loose individual cans. I use mine for pistol cartridges in original boxes and each holds plenty with little wasted space. Empty brass goes right back in as the boxes are emptied. Boxes can be labelled to segregate caliber if bringing more than one to the range. And if you don't want to carry all 4 just take a single can with you. I fully intend to buy more of these as the stacking function makes them even better for storage. The flat dark earth is nice and uniform but being able to get the cans in other colors would be a nice option so you know at a glance what can(s) or crate you want to grab. Looking forward to using these for bulk 556 and 300 rounds also.

Sweet little mags

Written on Nov 28, 2017

These are great little mags for use at the range or hunting. These fit in coat pockets and some shirt and pants pockets without trouble and easily fit in mag storage boxes as well as other on-body and off body carry conditions. The 10 round capacity is very versatile for shooting a variety of loads to compare performance from one round to another. Shorter length works with a Caldwell sled or other bench rests as opposed to the 30 round mags. Translucent smoke body is excellent. Durability does not appear to be an issue. Loading rounds and feeding in magwell was as effortless as that gets. No misfeed issues. Have not had to clean yet but appears to be simple for routine cleaning. Smaller mags are ideal for coyote, hog and deer hunting as you don't want/need the added weight and a responsible hunter does not need the capacity of a 20- or 30-round mag.
