Fantastic Kit

Written on May 28, 2024

This is the perfect carry on for your helmet and NODs on a flight. Well constructed and feature rich. My only complaint is that this is the old version which is a little small, the new V2 is bigger which allows you to store your helmet with the Wilcox G24 mount still attached.

But still good kit, buy with confidence.

Workhorse for great value

Written on Nov 28, 2020

Usually Nylon gear out of China isn't great quality. But these VISM (also branded Voodoo Tactical) are anything but.

I absolutely love mine. The soft cases are way easier to lug around and pack in the truck versus hard cases. I have used and abused mine for nearly 3 years and everything has held up. The stitching hasn't blown out, the straps all work and adjust fine.

Having the backpack straps is handy for extended rucks in the field. Having the extra pouches to store range gear is also a god send.

I cannot recommend this type of soft gun case enough. Some of the best money I've spent on the sport.

The absolute best pistol brace so far, bar none

Written on Jul 15, 2018

The worst problem with all prior pistol braces is that they are friction fit to the pistol buffer tube so they are a little loose and the material is a little too rubbery for the (ATF correct) Proper and Occasional shoulder and cheek weld.

Also most prior pistol braces do not telescope so length of pull is an issue for most people.

This new SB Tactical offering eliminates ALL of that. The plastic is a little tougher, more sturdy, and comfortable, and the telescoping option is excellent. Plus the buffer tube it's attached to is carbine length which is a plus.

Please keep in mind that due to ATF restrictions on what constitutes a stock v.s. a pistol brace the SBA3 is permanently attached (pinned) to it's provided buffer tube. If you remove the brace portion from the tube, it is no longer a legal pistol brace because you just modified it and putting it back on a short barreled upper may constitute the making of an illegal SBR.

Best of all this is probably the most affordable and high value SB tactical brace yet. The Gear Works Tailhook is also well constructed and telescopes but is far more expensive. The SBA3 is a no brainer.

Fan-freaking-tastic sights

Written on Apr 27, 2018

I wasn't too keen on the older 3 dot Trijicon sights before.

Then I tried this HD series and I am now a believer. Having a larger front dot really does help speed up your sight picture acquisition. The installation on a Walther PPQ is also extremely easy HOWEVER, don't reuse the factory front sight screw or you'll pop the tritium tube (the thread depth on the factory front sight screw is too long)... but thankfully Trijicon has wonderful customer service and took care of me. Walther PPQ front sights need a Glock front sight tool because the screw has a tiny hex pattern, you'll never be able to do it with pliers.

I can't say enough good things about this sight, truly it's a no brainer if you want an iron sight upgrade on your cheapy plastic PPQ sights.

Very niche piece of kit, but works wonderful when it works.

Because the MLOK standard that Magpul designed only addresses the outer dimensions of the slot and NOT the depth of the slot relative to the rail you WILL get fitment issues of these devices on some rails. Most notably the polymer handguards from Magpul itself. This is because in order for the rail to withstand stresses from weight bearing accessories like bipods or vertical/angled foregrips, they had to beef up the thickness of the polymer. This will prevent the locking tabs of the Kinect from engaging and expanding out correctly. I found this out right away with I bought a 3 slot piece as soon as it came out last year.

So I just dremeled the polymer off on the sections I wanted this device to go to.

I have heard unverified reports of it not working with some aluminum rails however, but Opticsplanet has pretty decent customer service so I wouldn't be too worried about it.

If you're lazy like me and I don't want to use a screwdriver all the time at the range to get things on and off your gun, these Kinects are the ticket. However they aren't cheap so I would plan out what accessories you truly need mounted in this fashion and buy conservatively.

Quality as always from Vortex

Written on Jan 04, 2017

These aren't the best scope rings out there but they are great quality and value. Easy to use and you don't need to lap the rings if you're using a flat base like a solid piccatinny rail. You can't really ask for more from scope rings. If you're building an ultra precision rifle rig you might want to spend more on the rings but these do fine in most applications from what I can tell.

Outstanding value, good quality optic all around.

This scope does everything as it's advertised. The ACSS reticle for 7.62x39/300 BLK is wonderful and the hold overs and bullet drops are spot on if you sight it correctly at the right distance. You simply cannot get a 1-6x at this price point with these features from anyone else. Mounted to an AK it's a little heavy and cumbersome overall, but I prefer a variable powered scope over a fixed power scope.

These scopes are made in China and while the value is outstanding, it is simply not a premium scope so don't expect it to be. The clarity of the glass isn't HD or top tier by any means and the 1x is not really a "true" 1x as you still get a "fish bowl effect". The ACSS chevron is great however overall to make the bullet drop reticle true to size ballistically it's a very very small pattern and doesn't draw your eye as well as a true red dot or holographic sight.

However at under 300 dollars with a 3 year warranty you can't go wrong with this optic if you're looking for something budget friendly on an AK or a cheaper 300 BLK AR build.
