I mistakingy thought that these were made of aluminum, but the body is actually made of polymer. They would probably do the job of iron sights just fine. In my opinion a backup sight needs to be more robust than these and be garunteed to work in rough conditions when metal starts deforming and other stuff starts breaking. Also, these are very poorly made. The front sight detent is poorly positioned so it doesn't lock the sight post from rotating. Even when placed on the same rail right next to each other, the front and rear sights are horribly out of line with each other at mechanical zero. It's a shame because 45 degree offset sights are a fantastic idea! Spend the money and buy some better ones like Knights Armament. Ya, they're 10x the price, but you know that they will work when you need them to, which is after all, the purpose of a backup sight.
