Works good for the price. Helmet mount issues solved.

Written on Jul 06, 2023

This is a pretty decent night vision device for the price. I got mine on another site for an extremely low price and couldn't miss the opportunity to try it out. It struggles in very low light environments, but with a half moon and light canopy you will be able to navigate well. The downsides are the automatic gain, which makes it quite sparkly at times, and the massive size. It's not that big of a deal, but its worth mentioning. The controls are easy to use, the battery life is good, and the illuminator does it's job.

A lot of reviews talk about the difficulty in mounting this to a helmet. THIS IS TRUE. you will be miserable trying to use a standard j-arm and rhino mount. the j-dapt plate doesnt work great either.

here is the fix. go to that famous online auction site. type in "j-arm adapter for flir breach" and select the item with the semi N shaped arm. its made of Aluminum, easy to adjust, and stable. IT WORKS. the 3d printed Wolf-14 arm works too, but not with eye-pro.

Couldn't handle a little rain.

I bought this thing as a tester to see if I like magnifiers, and if they would be a practical addition to my rifle setup. I started by mounting this to an airsoft gun (since it gets used more).

The image was clear enough, the eye relief was decent, and the mount is good. The problem is the rain. This thing just isnt built to handle any kind of disagreeable weather. The magnifier becomes useless when any water gets on the lens, and its made even worse by the internal lens fogging. I took it out in the weather twice, and already its so fogged I cant see anything through it.

Its fine as a range toy, for sunny days, while you sit in your chair and blast paper. But even for airsoft its no good.

Absolutely Amazing.

I bought myself this product after finding the straps on my HHV bump helmet leaving some to be desired. This increases stability, is strong and light and closes without any hassle at all. Installation was easy. the only downside is it's a bit expensive, but theres no buyers remorse here.

Very nice, but a couple of flaws.

I've had this kit for a few months now and have used it quite extensively. installation is easy and takes about 2 minutes to mount it to your helmet. It gets the goggle strap off of my ears and makes storing them on top of my helmet a breeze, but it does have a couple of downsides. First, the ARC rails don't fit perfectly, and I had to shim them with painters tape. oddly enough, they fit perfectly on those cheap amazon bump helmets, but not on my nice arc rails.

Next issue is in terms of space. If you choose to run this goggle strap kit, you WILL NOT be able to have a headset mounted to your helmet. theres simply not enough room.

if you dont plan on mounting a headset to your helmet, this kit + goggles rocks.

Good for the price, but not great.

The controls are in a good spot, the tape switch has decent buttons, and the IR illumination is useful (but not great). With gen 3 you get about 50 yards of illumination. with a gen 1+ unit it seems to be about 20 yards of useable light. the white light unit is bright, and has a decently wide beam. good for close up work inside the woods or in the house but this is NOT a long range light or IR illuminator. I wish the tape switch would allow me to have multiple selections for what type of beam I can throw. Sometimes I want to use only the laser. but other times I want only the white light. sadly the tape switch is only an on/off. and you make your selection of which beams are thrown on the unit itself. Others have written about poor battery life, but I've used my unit twice for extended periods, and I've left the battery in for over two weeks now. Still running the cheap battery the unit came with.

also, when using the IR illuminator, sometimes there is a momentary flicker of the visible white light off of the LED. This could be a problem if you're using this unit as a cheap alternative to a more expensive unit for your airsoft or paintball games. It only seems to happen when you press the tape switch. and it only happens for a split second. and not at full brightness. but it still happens.
