My barrel was defective
Written on May 23, 2026
I recently purchased a 7” barrel from Optic Planet and it was defective. It was not Optic Planet’s fault as it appears the barrel came from S& W with the barrel liner protruding over the feed ramp. Every type of ammunition would not feed and would jam into the overhang cutting a deep gouge into the bullet nose. I started to try to return the barrel, but their next expected delivery is November 2026. I am a professional mechanical engineer and have many gunsmithing tools. I used a dremel tool remove the barrel overhang and polished the feed ramp. Now it feeds fine. Also it shot 10” high with the iron sights at their lowest setting. As I am 76 my eyes are not what they were at a young age. I installed an optic plate and Leupold Delta Point red dot and now have it sighted in and shooting tight groups. I see Optic Planet has one more barrel in stock at a reduced price and listed as defective? If it has the same defect as mine it can be fixed for feeding with some work, but the shooting high with iron sights could still be a problem. That has been my experience with this purchase.
