MBUS Pro - The Go-To Standard for Rail-Mounted Sights

Written on Jun 30, 2024

This is the second set of the Magpul MBUS Pro flip Up sights I have purchased. While Magpul makes polymer versions of this sight at about half the price of the Pro series, the steel construction of the Pro model is much superior in ruggedness and durability - you'd be hard-pressed to damage an MBUS Pro sight beyond functionality, short of beating it with a sledge hammer. Absolutely the best military-grade rail-mounted sight out there. An added feature is the adjustable sight post: there is a "fat" (wider) profile for general use, and a thin profile for precision targeting - you can go from one to the other with a click, no tools needed. The sight locks up or down and is firmly engaged in either position; in the down position, its profile is minimal - ideal if you're running an optic. While pricey compared to the polymer versions, you get what you pay for - basically a near-indestructible sight that you can count on when the SHTF. I highly recommend this sight - bolt it on and forget about it - it'll be there when you need it.

RMRcc Ideal CCW Sight

Written on Mar 01, 2024

The Trijicon RMRcc Red Dot Sight (RDS) is typical Trijicon quality. It is pricey, but well worth the money, especially when significantly discounted off MSRP by Optics Planet. Mounted on a smaller weapon like the Glock 43X or Glock 48, it is the ideal size for concealed carry. Paired with a Forward Controls Design (FCD) OPF mounting plate, it is essentially "plug and play" on an MOS-equipped Glock 43X/48. Coupled with the special Ameriglo BIS 43X/48 front and rear sights specifically developed for the RMRcc-FCD OPF set up, you have the ideal co-witness iron sight system as back-up to the RMRcc. The RMRcc unit provides a quickly acquired dot that is adjustable for brightness. Specifically, using a both-eyes open/iron sight reference target acquisition technique brings the red dot immediately on the target - no moving the gun around looking for the red dot - it is fast and instinctive. The RMRcc/Ameriglo BIS sights combo is conducive to fast, precise target acquisition and subsequent accuracy. I cannot recommend the RMRcc/FCD OPF/Ameriglo BIS combination too highly - it is the ideal setup for concealed carry and enhanced target acquisition and accuracy. If you want absolutely the best RDS set-up, look no further, this is it.

Co-Witness Night Sight Solution for Holosun SCS on Glock

Written on Apr 27, 2023

If you have a non-MOS Glock (all Gen4 and below + early Gen5s) and you want to mount a Holosun SCS optical sight on the slide, the preferred option is to have the slide milled out. A feature unique to the SCS is its longer length due to the solar cell array in the rear of the sight's platform (vice on the shroud cover). This increased length overlaps the extractor housing in the Glock's slide (for sure on Glock19s and 26s and probably on all non-MOS Glock models). Due to this impingement of the SCS over the extractor housing, any milling must be done so as not to cut into the extractor channel. Because less metal can be milled out, this raises the SCS higher than it would be in an MOS Glock. The touted feature of the SCS is its ability to allow co-witnessing with standard height iron sights. This is apparently true with MOS Glocks, but because of the above-mentioned issue of impingement of the SCS over the non-MOS Glock extractor channel, the milling process cannot cut too deeply. This results in an increase in height of the SCS, which in turn negates use of stock/standard iron sights - they will not co-witness with the SCS, and you must use suppressor-level sights if you want the iron sights to co-witness with the SCS. The problem is suppressor-height sights are TOO high - you can co-witness OK, but they stick up inordinately high (a potential problem for concealed carry use - snagging on clothing, requirement for holster modification, etc.) Enter the TRYBE tritium ni
