I wanted to wait to review this after I shot it for groups, but Volquartsen is known to be accurate so I don’t foresee that being a problem.
The thing you will first notice about this barrel is that it is LIGHT! I weighed it at just over a pound on my scale, and the bull barrel I was replacing weighed 2lb 11oz so the gun points much easier.
The barrel into the receiver was a very, very tight fit (which probably helps accuracy) and the cutout on the barrel for the extractor is large just in case you don’t line it up just right.
What I had to do was start the barrel into the receiver, and then install the receiver back into my stock and strike the barrel on the ground to get it to go in the receiver. This sounds awful I know, but I defy you to find another way that doesn’t involve striking the barrel. It’s carbon fiber so it’s tough.
At the end of the day it was in, and looks and feels great. Now I just have to shoot it. My old Shaw match barrel was very accurate but was not threaded to accept a silencer. This is the barrel to get as the added weight of a silencer will be offset by the weight savings of this.
I couldn’t wait for the trigger to get here. I have a lot of experience with quality AR triggers but not with Remington 700. On my AR I have all Geiselle and they are as superb as I can imagine a trigger being. I have a high speed national match from geiselle in my bench AR and that has as true to an “icicle break” as I think anyone could get.
The Timney is still very good but at about half of the price as the trigger mentioned above it isn’t as good as that. I would describe this trigger break as “A deep frozen carrot” it has just a tiny tiny tiny bit of softness before the very clean break that if you never used anything better you probably wouldn’t be able to discern.
Overall this trigger still breaks very clean especially for its price point. I have tried to induce a slamfire and have slammed the butt on the ground and it is by my estimation 100% safe even when set very light.
The wall between both stages is very discernible and even when the second stage is set very light, you can reach the wall and know it’s there without inadvertently blowing past it and firing prematurely.
