Rock solid tripod that reduces fatigue, increases stealth and improves accuracy when hunting

Written on Oct 28, 2022

I bought two of these BOG Death Grip tripods a couple of weeks ago and used one just last week to take a 200 pound 7-Point who stepped out of the morning shadows at 50 yards. My muzzle loader was already in position and the only movement I made while in the ground blind was to lean my cheek onto the rifle, aim, and fire the round. He dropped where he stood and never even knew I was there. It was an accurate, quick and humane harvest. We love venison and this will be enjoyed by our family and friends.

For budget reasons, I bought the non-carbon fiber tripod. It is heavier than the carbon version but that also makes it more stable and helps to absorb recoil. It is perfect for ambush hunting from a ground blind or platform blind but if I was a stalk hunter, the carbon fiber version would be the better choice to reduce the weight while stalking for extended distances and time.

Good, solid rings but tricky to align scope

Written on Oct 14, 2019

These are good quality rings but, as others have commented, you can’t torque the bottom screws to the specified amount and still be able to position the scope for eye relief or rotate it to level the crosshairs. The installation instructions say you can but it isn’t possible. Therefore, the bottom screws have to be loosened to make these adjustments. It took me a number of repeated attempts to properly level the crosshairs as the tightening of the screws caused a bit of unwanted rotation to occur even when you incrementally and alternately tighten the screws. I finally got it close enough but I would like to see this be an easier and more precise process. I would not use these rings if I were a long range shooter but they will serve just fine for my shooting which is less than 200 yards and often much closer than that.
