The King of the Irons

Written on Mar 15, 2020

These iron sights are expensive, no doubt. Are they worth 220 dollars? Yes they are. These sights are the absolute pinnacle of fixed AR-15 sights. These sights are extremely light yet robust. Whoever engineered these refined and improved the design, fit and function. The Peaks hug the top rail with no snag points while keeping a very low profile. The best feature though is the ease of adjustment. They adjust just like an optic and are marked so you know which way to dail them while zeroing. You dont need a front sight adjustment tool or screwdrivers. These offer tool free dails that sport positive and audible clicks. The rear apetures switch nice and smooth as well. Nice tight front sight post for precision shooting. They are perfect in e every way and the price reflects it. There is no finer fixed sight on the market. These have no competition.

DLC coated Titanium better than raw.

Written on Mar 02, 2020

I have purchased both the raw and DLC coated titanium nuts and the Coated one is by far the better option for an easier install. The raw titanium presents alot of friction against the threads on the upper. athe coated one removes this friction and makes for an easier install and torque. The are both great but the DLC is what i would recommend. You cannot see them anyway under the KMR rail so color shouldnt matter anyway. These nuts will shave critical ounces away and help considerable with building a ultra light and fast handling blaster.

Light and Strong

Written on Feb 17, 2020

Got this for a lite 300 BO build and paired with a 7” BCM MCMR. Very tight when threading onto my WMD upper. Advise greasing it well and taking your time torquing down. I went to 45 fp’s. Hand guard fits extremely tight.i had to use a heat gun to get it set but that is a good thing. Ways much less than factory KMR nut and you can tell with finished product. I am extremely happy with this nut. It is perfect in every way.

Beware of the curiously long titanium screw

Written on Dec 23, 2019

This screw is so long that it pushed into the trigger and would not allow it to function. It is ridiculously long. Both options state they are intended for AR-15 or M16 but no measurements are provided. It is a grip screw and I had no clue it was so long that it impact my trigger and not allow my gun to operate. Buyer beware.

Beautiful BCG runs like a top.

Written on Oct 10, 2019

I am running this BCG is a 10.5 556 AR pistol with a law folder and JP silent captured buffer spring. Excellent workmanship as this BCG is flawless. With around 1200 round thru it so far and has performed very well for me. No evidence of the coating flaking off or any excessive wear on the bolt. I wanted to lighten up the action and take a few ounces off the gun and this bolt has helped me accomplish that while still insuring the gun runs and cycles 1-- percent, and it does. The staking job is well done better than most I have seen. This is a pricey BCG but it is well worth the asking price if you are looking to lighten your blaster or tune the action up a bit. The anarcy outdoors BCG extension for the low folder fits perfectly in this BCG too in case anyone else is running that and wondering.

Great red dot but it is not a multiple reticle optic like ad says.

Written on Sep 16, 2019

This sight the 407CO has a 8 moa circle dot only. The ad states it is a multiple reticle option but this is not the case. I confirmed it with Holosun after I received the sight and could only get the one reticle to appear. That said it is a very nice sight. I am using it as a back up sight on a AR pistol and it works quite well for that application. Plenty bright for daytime use and the shake awake tech works to save battery life. I own several Holosun sights now and have never had a single problem with any of them. Just beware of the reticle...it is not a multiple reticle sight. 8 MOA circle only.

Functional but could be better

Written on Aug 21, 2019

Works as advertised as far as allowing you to bleed off gas coming into the key. It is fairly easy to adjust on the fly as well. Key appears well staked. My complaints about the BCG are in the details. The contact surfaces are not polished at all. Even budget BCG's are polished where they make contact with other parts but this BCG has not been finished at all in those areas. On the bottom of the BCG where it makes contact with the upper receiver when it reciprocates back and forth should be polished to both protect your upper receiver and decrease friction in the action. The area where the cam riders back and forth is also not polished out making for more friction in the action and causing premature wear on the BCG and cam pin. It surprises me that Bootleg didn't take the time to do this. Like I said even a basic mil spec carrier includes these refinements.

Sweet pistol brace but comes with downsides...

Written on Jul 08, 2019

Really awesome "brace" here. Installs fairly easily. The spring mechanism performs flawlessly and pushing that button and having the OTF like deployment will make you the envy of all those guys at the range rocking those SBA3s, KAK braces. This is really the only true PDW brace on the market as the SB and Maxim braces are not spring loaded. Not the most comfortable brace when it "occasionally and sporadically" makes contact with your shoulder tho, but it is not uncomfortable either. The cheek weld is actually pretty good considering the design. It has performed flawlessly thus far on my 10.5 inch 300 BO pistol with no cycling issues whatsoever. The downside is mainly the castle nut will come loose after 40 to 50 rounds. Since there is no end plate to stake the nut to the 2 inch long castle nut is free to back out and loves to do so. The only thing I can think you can do about it is to add some sort of non permanent lock tight. Also the plastic cheek weld piece just slides over the tube so it can also come loose and fall off. I know sacrifices had to be made due to the design but these issues mean this is mainly just a range toy for me and not something I would use for self defense purposes. All things considered tho the Viper brace is another big win for Strike Ind.

Not a 1 power scope. Not even a 1.5.

Written on Apr 27, 2019

The scope has very clear glass, no doubt about it. It is however not a one power. It is in reality a 1.8 to 6. My Vortex Strike Eagle is more of a one power than this Trijicon is. Eye box is about the same as the strike eagle as well. Overall this scope is a disappointment. Why these scope companies continue to mislead customers by saying they provide a one power optic and then sell you a non one power optic Ill never understand.

Built like a tank but heavy

Written on Mar 10, 2019

This is a very stoutly made grip. To the point I think it is a bit of overkill. It does hold 2 CR123 batteries firmly with zero play or noise. The grip texture is very pronounced and a bit sharp. If you are not wearing gloves and grip this thing firmly it will cause hotspots and pain, especially after extended use. It is comfortable if you are wearing gloves, but bear hand this grip for a couple patrols and you are going to feel it tomorrow. It is also the heaviest grip I have ever used. It is built like a tank but on the flip side the weight is a issue. If you plan on using a grip to place on barricades or use it as a monopod then this could be the grip for you as it is heavy duty. Overall this is a well made grip but the knurling is just to much for bare handed use for an extended period. It does tighten down nicely and there is no play or wiggle.
