Hard to Find .44 Mag Ammo Pouch

Written on Nov 23, 2020

This ammo pouch its generally on backorder, so I had to wait a few weeks to receive it. Wanted it to match up with my DeSantis holster and belt combo. I also have the 44 Mag ammo holder and belt from Galco. Quality is similar between the brands but I prefer DeSantis holsters generally but the Galco belts and ammo holders seem to be of a slightly higher grade of finish. The problem is when you're a stickler for detail like me, you want the colors to match. The DeSantis tan is a bit lighter with a slight reddish tint while Galco tan is more brown. I like to match them up for a more custom look.

My Favorite J-Frame Holster

Written on Nov 02, 2017

The Companion II has quickly become my favorite J frame holster. I own literally dozens of holsters and I keep coming back to DeSantis for my needs.

I bought the original Companion almost 25 years ago and I liked it a lot. The original had a metal spring clip for attachment to the belt. Over the years, I snagged and sprung a couple of metal clips.

The updated Companion II has a clip made of a material that seems like Kydex. This is a significant improvement in comfort and retention.

Very Functional and Elegant Ammo Carrier

Written on Nov 02, 2017

I like this ammo carrier by Galco however, I own several ammo carriers for revolvers by various makers and over time, I find that I like the DeSantis version better. This Galco model looks great and goes very well with the matching Galco belt.

Two things need some improvement. One small thing is that the ammo retainers are not as tight as I would like. Also, the belt needs to be worn tight or the ammo holder can slide out when unsnapped.

Revolvers seem to be getting a bit more popular lately. It is still harder to find good revolver ammo carriers vs. semi-auto ammo carriers. This carrier is a good piece of gear but it requires some care and getting used to it to avoid dropping ammo.

When matched with the Galco belt, this makes a very handsome and classy carry combination.
