Any defensive weapon should have night sights. These are an excellent choice. They greatly improve front sight visibility in low light.
They were easy to install, took me only a few minutes. Delivery from Optics Planet was fast and efficient. Recommended.
As my experience shooting at extreme long range increased, I became aware of the importance of keeping the rifle level at all times. I put a bubble level on my rifle but was frustrated by the difficulty of adjusting the rifle tilt when on uneven ground. This gadget is the answer. It allows instant adjustment and then locks up solid. Easy to install. Lightweight. Highly recommended.
A good level is essential for accuracy at long range. The Vortex bubble level works well and is very rugged.
I have one mounted on the left side of the scope on my .308 precision rifle (I am right handed). I find it is best to mount the level as far forward on the scope tube as possible so that it is more easily visible without moving your head.
Occasionally, recoil will cause the bubble to break up into several smaller bubbles, but this never lasts more than a few seconds.
The FC-6 is advertised to fit scopes with objective diameters from 45 to 55 mm. I bought one for my Vortex PST 4-16x50 riflescope, which has a 50mm objective.
The FC-6 might be OK for 45 mm but it is definitely too small for anything larger because the ID of the cover is 45mm and will, therefore, reduce the effective objective diameter to 45 mm. I didn't try to fit it onto the scope, but the small diameter would have made it very difficult.
Probably the dimensions refer to the outside diameter of the scope, but if so they should make that clear.
Other than that, the cover is of slightly better quality that a Butler Creek and snaps closed more securely.
This is a scope for long range precision shooting. The MOA reticle, along with a 'Mil Dot Master' slide rule enables the serious shooter to accurately calculate the range of targets. The scope is very well made, has excellent clear glass and is a pleasure to use.
I mounted it on a SIG SSG3000 rifle for the Long Range Rifle course at Gunsite in Arizona. The rifle/scope combination was everything I could have wanted and more. Over the course of a week I hit everything I aimed at out to 1000 yards. The ranging reticle was invaluable and the turret adjustments were very well exercised, being cranked to maximum elevation and back several times with nary a problem. The return to zero feature works well.
Despite being banged around quite a bit and over 300 rounds fired, nothing budged.
The lifetime warranty is a great thing to have, but based on present performance I don't think I will need it.
I have had this scope on my .338 Lapua mag rifle for almost two years. The zero has not moved since I mounted it (with a +20 m.o.a. base and Burris Xtreme rings). The elevation and windage turrets are solid and turn with very positive clicks which are easy to count. The spacer system to set up the positive return to zero is easy to set up and works well but doesn't provide an absolute return to zero, only to a few clicks away.
I particularly like and highly recommend the FFP reticle which changes in size with zoom setting so that the reticle subtensions remain constant regardless of zoom setting. This is of particular importance when using the reticle to estimate range as it doesn't need to be set to a specific zoom setting to be accurate.
The optical quality is impressive. I have used Nightforce and Leupold scopes of similar power and I just don't see any significant difference. Certainly not enough to justify the difference in price. Overall, this is a terrific scope for the money and ideal for shooting at 600 yards and well beyond.
