I compared this scope to the Swarovski 115mm ATX series with the binocular and mono eye piece attachments. This scope was easier to focus and get fine detail than the Swarovski. I set up optics charts and also tested for chromatic aberration. The Kowa Prominar tsn-99a outperformed the Swaro in chromatic aberration and it allowed for more accurate focusing. It was difficult to get the Swaro to achieve the same level of focus as the TSN-99. The dual focus on the Kowa gives it the edge in resolution in most cases for me. Both the Swarovski and Kowa are capable of the same level of resolution I just found it easier to achieve on the Kowa.
I viewed some Robins in a blossoming cherry tree and the details were stunning. I also viewed a Coyote walking along a river bank at sunset from 3km away and I could see detail in the Coyote's fur. As with all optics the image resolution can suffer from poor light quality. When the atmospheric conditions are bad, or humidity is high the air will bend the light over a great distance. However this optic performs wonderfully under bad conditions. With optimal conditions and user skill to achieve proper focus, this scope can be jaw dropping in quality.
This scope is also very light for its objective size and feels very well built. I was surprised by how light it is and yet it performed better than the Swarovski atx 115mm in my tests. Highly recommend if you want top of the line.
