Recently took this Rogue 8x25 to Africa for a hunt. Great compact set, HOWEVER.....

Written on Oct 25, 2018

So. I've owned this bino for couple years now. I'm coming back for a review. I have loved using these for whitetail hunting in KY but our range is limited here.. My son and I last week got back from an African hunt. My son used this set and I used a voretex 10x32 bino. This leupold rogue is a little bit more clear than the voretex. TheVoretex is made in China and the leupold is made in Phillipines,(According to the stickers). HOWEVER, about 3 days into the hunt and after a long stalk on a Gemsbok, my boy pointed out that the eyepiece was missing!!. Not the main body eyepiece, but the extension that is used if you don't wear eyeglasses. Anyhow, I'm sending it back today for a repair or replace. So far the return process has been a simple online return form. We shall see how long they take. Also, I don't care for the factory strap. Do yourself a favor and find two of the small key rings, feed them through the loops on side of binos, then make yourself a paracord strap that works better.. My boy used a voretex chest strap and worked for him, but I prefer side sling carry on my binos while hunting. I would definitely buy this handy pair again and not let the broken eyepiece stop a future purchase.

Dissapointed. Read!!

I was shopping for a lightweight, inexpensive scope for my 12yr old sons youth 308 to take to Africa for his Safari. This scope came recommended by two friends who own them. I mounted this scope with steel rings and torqued to 28”#. First few shots I walked them in to 10 ring and had a decent group for a cheap scope. However, after about 15 shots the group widened and started trailing off the more I shot. I then noticed reticle cant. I double checked the scope position and realized the reticle was rotating inside the scope. Optics planet return policy is phenomenal and one reason I do business with them. They take care of the return and I don’t have to mess with the manufacturer return. Kudos to Optics Planet!!

Excellent Glass for the money. Good quality body.

I mounted this on a DPMS AR10 Recon 308. I like closed caps so I don't accidentally move the adjustments while transporting on my quad at rear angle carry. I'm hard on rifles and scopes, and don't like delicate equipment. I have the BDC reticle and use it as reference marks for my yardage. I zero the cross at 200 yard and shoot each hash mark for my additional yardage. Typically about 275yds on first, 400 on second. My only complaint is, while zeroing, my caps were in pocket, and the metal disc label with the "1/4" moa / R arrow down, L arrow up" disk, flew off on first shot and was lost in the grass. No worries to me, as I know screw it down and impact is down. Anyhow, I'm certain voretex would send me another if I asked. They have excellent customer service.

Good bang for the buck

I was looking for glass under $500. Mainly for deer hunting to 500yds. Got to look at one of these in a store. Was immediately in love with it. I like closed turrets so they don't get moved while in truck and on quad banging around. I like the clicks, very distinct. Glass is clear. This scope compares to the vortex viper 3.5x10x50 I just bought as well. The crosshairs is hair thin. Just like I prefer. It's now bedded on a Thompson prohunter in 300 win mag with Weaver steel X-high rings. I needed .370" clearance without caps, and now get about .560 clearance without caps. The bdc reticle is a must imo. I don't ever bother calculating drops with mil dots. I just zero every rifle at 200, then shoot each hash mark to see what range it hits. Then I print a drop chart photo and tape to stock. It's so simple my 10 yr uses it with a rangefinder.

Mounting hint: on each bottom ring, put a piece of the super thin 3m double stick tape to give a firm hold, to prevent canting of reticle when torquing. Or you can put a couple tiny strands of automotive plastigage on the bottom instead for same results, and always, always put a drop of blue #242 loctite on every screw.
