I utilize this with a head mount or on a helmet, or simply as a monocle to watch for predators, such as coyotes and mountain lions, on my ranch at night. I like to know where they are. The unit itself is very well made, and the image is super clear with or without the built-in IR illuminator. I frequently use it in conjunction with an AN/PEQ IR laser/illum, and you can see quite clearly regardless of natural ambient light. I have not yet mounted it directly on a weapon behind the optic, but I have some red dot and some magnified optics with NV compatible dots/reticles, and plan on doing that soon. Very pleased with the color, and relative to other units in the past I have owned, this is so far the best. The white phosphor is preferable, for me, over the standard green NODs. I will say, that I am not pleased with the OEM mounting options for helmets. The rhino arm that comes with the goggle kit, is all plastic. It doesn't have a metal skeleton or anything. Very cheap feeling and I do not like using it with a $2,000 unit. The J-arm is NOT the same as a PVS-14, and it does not lock affirmatively into a Norotos GI rhino, due to different locking mechanisms. ATN customer service so far has been lacking. But I have nothing bad to say about the actual unit. Just that if you plan on trying to helmet mount it, expect sub-par proprietary mounting options.
