Better THan Expected

Written on Aug 16, 2024

I'm 53 years old, have been shooting for a while. I have this on a Saint Victor 9mm Carbine and its just right. The 1x setting let's me use it as a red-dot and the 6x lets me bump out to 100/200 yards w/ no issue. Shooting steel plates 6" 8" and 10 inches. The range goes to 300 yards but thats hit and miss...its a 9mm not a 223/556. I have a Vortex Viper HD LPVO on my 556 AR and its superb. The Strike Eagle brightness setting are pretty weak until you get in the upper range (11). If your shooting outside in the sun its bright enough to use as Red Dot. Clarity wise, for my set up shooting a MAX of 300 yards its fine. No complaints. If you plan to shoot further for precision this may not be what your looking for. Take note to the warning taped to the scope main tube....it says don't tighten the rings more than 18 inch pounds....thats easy to blow through by hand. I'm actually very happy with the Strike Eagle.

Used for training class

Written on May 03, 2024

Hi folks - great gloves. I 52 and on blood thinners. I used the gloves during several firearms training classes so I didn't get small cuts...with the blood thinners you bleed more than usual and wanted to avoid the hassle. One carbine and one shotgun class. The gloves are tight enough to have the dexterity you need to meet the needs to manipulate the weapon and fire with ease. The are form fitting and fit well and don't get hung up in the actions or when loading the shotguns. Great gloves. Sizing - I would almost always just buy winter gloves that were large but I read the size chart and it says small..sorta on the line for medium. I ordered both and the mediums were better. My friend took the smalls. Read the chart and measure your hand like it says. If you are on the bubble between sizes I would take the bigger of the two. Thats my two cents...great gloves.

It does exactly what it advertises...but

Written on Mar 22, 2024

It does exactly what it says it does. It's easy as heck to install, it stays in place and easy to use with a bit of practice. Outside on my deck I was truly surprised how bright it was in the sunlight. After that I went into a small room with no windows and there it was just as advertised. So I went to the range the next day and realized the range light is not daylight bright, each range stall has two small lights overhead so when I looked at the sight it was a bit dim and disappointing to me. I think if you plan to use it outside your good to go. At the range with average lighting it was OK but the fiber optics don't really pick up all that much and the tritium helps buy ya know thats really for night. Outside great inside OK.

Nice Trigger

Written on Dec 27, 2023

OK - I'm 52 and have tried a lot of triggers in different Glocks over the years. I used this as a replacement for my Alpha Trigger. Not sure what it was but we didn't get along in the Glock 17 Gen 5. I love Timney, I have 2.5 # triggers in many of my rifles so I thought this would be great. It may be for some but wasn't for me. I replaced it with the Vogel. The Vogel has some pre-travel before hitting the wall and I LIKE THAT its predictable and repeatable every shot. You can adjust the over-travel very easily and I'm very happy with it. The kit comes with a 4, 4.5 and 5# striker spring set. I run the 4.5# spring, an extended tip skeletonized striker and a 13# recoil spring. I started w/ the 15# recoil spring and had zero malfunctions so I tried the 13# recoil spring and have had ZERO malfunctions...I'm sticking w/ the 13# spring. With those items installed the trigger pull weight is around 3.25 to 3.75. I'm using a Wheeler manual spring operated gauge that has some room for error but the trigger feels light and crisp. I did not try the 4# spring after feeling how light the trigger already was...Not a carry gun trigger at all.

Im 52 and these make a big difference!

As I get older, I look to better brighter sights. Tried a red dot, they're cool, but not for me. The HD XR's front sight is bright and slim...easy for 52 year old eyes to lock onto. Rear sight allows for quick alignment. Great all purpose target shooting and amateur steel shooting competitions.
