Excellent, but take some getting used to

Written on Aug 21, 2024

I’ve always wanted a pair of range finding binoculars. These are excellent. Comparing them to my Vortex 10 x 50 side-by-side at twilight, the Vortex has a very slight edge. Very slight. My hunting partner couldn’t tell the difference. But incorporating the range finding capabilities in an binocular beats everything. The magnification is higher, the image is steadier, it’s easier to look through with both eyes, and it’s extremely accurate. I compared it against two other rangefinders and it’s spot on the money. The main drawback is the weight. They are lighter than a comparable pair of binoculars plus a separate rangefinder, but that really only matters when you are carrying them in a harness. Holding them in your hand they feel very dense. But once I finished a long morning in the tree stand, I wasn’t really noticing the difference. One curious thing that took me a little while to figure out. I noticed that it looked like the ranging display was crooked in the ocular. Couldn’t possibly imagine how that was true. Realized that I actually hold my head at a slight tilt (which most people do). Concentrate on holding your head straight up and down and everything levels out. You would never notice this in a normal rangefinder that you’re only holding up to one eye. So all in all, highly recommended.
