I bought these as a gift for my son for Christmas. He was thrilled with the gift as he needed an upgrade from the low end binos he was given as a young teenager. This is one sturdy pair of binos. We did much side by side comparing of these against my $2,400+ pair of Leica 8x42, and those things rock. Vortex has a well thought out and high performance design here. Where the Vortex Viper came up short in this UNFAIR comparison: extreme edge clarity (and I'm talking very outer rim), slightly less bright in extreme low light, slightly more glare when viewing in direction of rising or setting sun. If I had not been comparing side by side, none of these would have stood out to me as anything close to objectionable. Where I actually preferred the Vortex Viper to my Leicas: Lighter weight, trimmer in width when folded inward, feel more secure and stable against chest when in bino chest harness, Hand feel is awesome.
I love the lens caps, and feel and function of the eyecups and focus knob. Extremely quick and easy to dial in when changing view to objects at different distance. You do not get fatigued when spending long time looking through these like some others at this price point.
For the price point, the Vortex Viper HD is a screaming bargain.

Absolutely impressed by the clarity, feel, and ease of use for the money. Have been using a high end pair of Leica full size binos for years and figured I was forever spoiled by high end optics. However, I really wanted a lightweight compact set of binos specifically for bow hunting. Vortex binos, and particularly these Vanquish compacts are amazing value for the money. Love everything about them. I was torn as to whether to go with 8x or 10x, concerned that shake might be an issue with 10x especially in compacts. The Vanquish design is so comfortable in hand, have had no issues with shaking images for objects out to 150 yards. After using on 3 evenings, I can say that light gathering and clarity after sundown far exceeded my expectations. No, these will not replace my Leicas, but they fill a unique niche for me. So pleased with this purchase.
