It's nice but it is NOT Mil Spec

Written on Jul 15, 2020

I was reading the Q&A whether or not this buffer tube was Mil Spec. Ethan C. the gear expert says

"That is the same size as a milspec buffer tube.

by Ethan C., Gear Expert, February 14, 2020"

Mil spec is 1.14" diameter. But sadly after installing and shaping the insert to fit my NHM-90 AK-47 Norinco, My MFT Buttstock (Mil Spec) couldn't fit! I took out my digital caliper and measure this FAB Defense Tube at 1.175" diameter. Commercial size. Then I watch a video online saying that Commercial tubes are slanted at the end. Sure enough, the FAB Defense Tube was slanted.

I would have really love to have this on my AK-47 Norinco with the Buffer tube which is a nice feature. Sadly, my buttstock was already Mil Spec. I had to return this product for a refund. Hopefully, Optics Planet can give it to me since I thought this was the correct size for my needs. I gave it 3 stars because of the incorrect spec size from the Q&A. Please describe this product as Commercial-Spec 1.17" diameter.

I went with a Striker Industries AK-AR adaptor. Still needed the sides grinding (from 1.240" to 1.229" ish) to fit. And I could only screw in one because the hole gaps are different. Barely fits, but sturdy enough with the side adaptors. I may need a new rear trunnion, but it works for now to have a Mil-spec AR style buttstock on my Ak-47.
