A Must Have for Long Distance Shooting
Written on Apr 12, 2026
I've been wanting to get a Kestrel for a while now but the ones recommended to me were quite pricey. I did some research and found this version can be upgraded at a later date to the elite model with a firmware upgrade. I practiced using it outside a couple of times before my F Class Match yesterday. I must say I'm very impressed. I got my muzzle velocity and zero at 100 yards. Got to the match and got the readings. It pairs with the Hornady Ballistics calculator. Once the information is gathered it magically integrates with the Hornady Ballistics calculator. I got my firing solution on the calculator. Put my yardage in. Dialed up the MOA and sent it. It was very windy but I was almost perfect on the elevation. It was on sale from Opticsplanet and the red banner appeared for special pricing. Called customer, got the deal and bought it. It arrived in a few days. Some reviews say it's hard to figure out. It took me about 30 minutes to set it up and start taking readings. If you are a beginner to longer range shooting or hunting, I highly recommend this Kestrel from Opticsplanet. They have been my go to for shooting gear for the past decade or so. Thank you Opticsplanet.

Very Cool Piece of Gear
Written on Apr 04, 2026
I just started competing in F Class matches, PRS and 1K yard gong challenges last year. I have a Garmin Xero, the Hornady ballistics calculator and this was the one piece of gear I lacked. It was on sale but there was a red tab on the page saying to call customer service for a special offer. Customer service was super helpful as always and I got an extra $30 off. Opticsplanet has been great to work with over the past 10 years. They are my go to for gun parts and gear. Some reviews I've read said the Kestrel 5700 was a pain to figure out but I didn't have any issues setting it up or collecting data. The Kestrel app is very intuitive. I have an old school DOPE card I made on a 3x5 card and put it in in an Under Armour QB sleeve, but once you build your profile into the Kestrel app it is very easy to get your firing solutions for whatever distance you are shooting at from 200 to 2K yards. If you do want to move on to ELR shooting there is an option to upgrade the Kestrel 5700 to the Kestrel 5700 Elite with a firmware upgrade, which means you can get into this at a lower price point and then upgrade it without having to buy another model which is super handy. If you want to take the next step in long distance shooting I would highly recommend the Kestrel 5700 Ballistics Weather Meter with LiNK from Opticsplanet.

In my opinion Eylar cases are just as good if not better than Pelican.
Written on Oct 01, 2025
I own a couple Pelican Vaults. I have heard a lot of good things about Eylar cases. It's definitely built well and it's stout. You aren't buying a lightweight case. The little pull and pluck cubes come apart easy to customize the inside of whatever you want to put in. For me the ease of the customizable pull and pluck foam over cutting of the Pelican Vault foam is the deciding factor. I will be buying a couple more in the future for some different rifles. Oh it also has the air pressure valve. After I got the lid closed with my gear inside, I turned the air release and a little bit of air came out. Pretty neat. Measure your rifle and add a minimum of 4" to the case size. My rifle is 40" overall and it barely fit with two layers of foam cubes on the ends. Sizing up is ok, you can't shrink your rifle.

Just what I wanted

I have a 300 blackout suppressed. 105. Barrel with a BCM 9" handguard. But I've always thought the handguard covering part of the suppressor looked cool. Plus I love MI stuff. Well I got it installed, which was super easy, and not only did it look cooler than I thought it would it also gave me more real estate to put a light on it without it effecting my grip.

Walker razors
Written on Nov 03, 2024
All my electronic ear pro are Walkers. They work fantastic. I even bought a couple pairs of the mic adapters for comms with a 2nd or 3rd person and those work great also. Highly recommend these for electronic ear pro and they don't break the bank like some other brands.

Great Back Pack
Written on May 04, 2024
I needed a new backpack for my daily travels and came across this one and it was water resistant. It is built very well, the zippers are top notch. I liked it so much when opticsplanet had them on sale then a special offer I couldn't pass up getting another one. I also highly recommend getting the water proof duffel bag
