Solid lock-up, QD goodness

Written on Oct 24, 2020

Pricey yes, but a quality piece to match the ruggedness of the paired RMR. QD useful if you have multiple rifles/pistols (thanks ATF). Perfect lower 1/3 cowitness with Dueck Defense/Surefire offset Rapid Transition sights if you like redundancy. ACOG and offset RMR are a match made in heaven...

M...R...ruhrOh, Raggy- from a Trijicon Fan Boy

Written on Oct 02, 2020

This optic missed the mark big time. Would be decent if the dot actually stayed on instead of flicker in and out right outside the box. I thought it was the included battery that was the issue, but alas, a new replacement did not solve the issue. Other gripes include slight magnification, parallax everywhere, and a HUGE difference between setting 3 and 4. The issue is setting 3 is not quite enough for fighting washout with a bright white weapon mounted light indoors but setting 4 is starbursty bright, not crisp, and constant on battery life is reported 30 days. Wanted to like this optic but I really lost confidence in Trijicon’s electronics. Will stick with dual illumination and irons.

Red, errr, GREEN Dot Alternative for SHTF

Written on Apr 26, 2020

I scratched my head at the thought of a 1.5x optic- decided to give it a go, and glad I did. The 1.5x is extremely fast for CQB, yet the extra boost in magnification can lend to target ID. Running an ACOG boosts confidence that your optic can go ham and back and stay zeroed. Fiber optics, tritium, and an etched reticle all complement eachother in various lighting conditions. Some claim looking into a lit area from a dark area has serious wash out- I find these claims over-hyped, and can work through this situation no problem, maybe just milliseconds lost, thanks to the etched reticle. If you are not 100% confident with dealing with potential washout perhaps consider the addition of offset irons. I choose the green reticle since I favor that contrast in desert environment. When in the dark the tritium is well lit, almost as if you are looking through a battery powered reticle on lower mid-range; seems turbocharged over my TA31 for some reason. I contempated this vs the ACSS reticle. I liked the concept of the ACSS but ended up choosing the circle dot, as the ACSS reticle is BDC calibrated for M193 out of a 16” barrel, and my intented use for this optic is for targets 200 meters and in out of a 10.3 URG-I MK18. I am happy with this choice and have found the circle dot extremely fast and easy to pick up. The eye box and relief seem generous, much more than advertised. Field of view is impressive for such a small scope. Did I mention how lightweight and compact this ACOG is?

Excellent- spendy, but recommended

Written on Apr 17, 2020

An upper worthy for the Boog. Superior fit and finish. Handles well in tight quarters/cqb environment- pair with an SB Tactical brace to avoid ATF NFA nonsense- I recommend the SBA3, as the cheekweld is closer to the SOPMOD stocks, as the cloners know. Is this a true clone? No. However, I have found the Geissele parts (upper reciever/super gas block) a better fit for this upper vs a true clone. The DD MK12 gas block may have potential clearance issues with the MK16 rail, whereas Geissele’s super gas block is more forgiving. Bombproof installation sums it up, with a pin and two set screws (witness marked) on the gas block. I spotted some aeroshell grease under the barrel nut- I am confident the builders at Geissele know WTF they’re doing and have strong QC in place. Cloners will drool over the rare SF4P flash hider, and may even pay you $300 for it. Upper came packaged in a URG-I box with the Surefire “golden ticket”, a Super 42 H3 buffer/spring, and a 35% off Geissle.com coupon (Geissele has been hit hard for product demand since Black Friday 2019, and wait times have been months for some- this coupon is likely a limited time customer apology). You will spend about a half hour cleaning the cosmojizz off this upper and BCG. Bottom line, if you have the coin, want this upper, and find this upper in stock (rare)- get some!

This upper should suppress well (DD has reduced MK18 gas port to 0.070 since 2017) and will love to eat 77gr. Will look into the Surefire Warden attachment i
