Pelican 1720 Watertight Gun Case

Review for
Pelican 1720 Protector Long Gun Case
I bought this particular gun case to transport a Ruger 10/22. The dimensions are perfect for short barreled rifles, including ARs. I wasn't thrilled about cutting my own foam to fit one particular rifle, but it was actually quite easy following Pelican's instructions.
Three areas of concern. Nothing major but needs to be considered.
1. Weight. This thing is heavier than my 10/22.
2. Replacement foam is pricey! Count on $30 just for a new middle pad for customizing the fit to another rifle.
3. Water tight? I didn't have the guts to throw a brand new gun case in a lake with a customized 10/22 to watch it sink. It should be boyant, but I can't say for sure. I do know that cleaning the outside of the case with mild soap and water leaves the inside pefectly dry.
