The very best.

Written on Jun 10, 2024

I had pushed out of my mind long ago and thoughts of spending the money required to buy a Spuhr mount. There are indeed many fine mounts that will do the job very well. But when I decided to get a thermal optic, I needed the option of switching from a long range riflescope to the thermal quickly, with peace of mind that zeroes will be maintained. Yet again, there are many fine mounts that guarantee zeroes. But it is the ecosystem surrounding Spuhr mounts that started to draw me in. On my precision long-range rifle I had a great level as well as a dope card holder. But I don't need either when using the thermal, and in fact, they were just in the way. The awesome attachment holes built into Spuhr mounts, as well as the many options from various manufacturers to utilize those holes is what made spending the money appealing. I now have my long-range riflescope attached to a quick-release Spuhr mount, and attached to that Spuhr mount is an awesome Flatline Ops articulating level, an incredible Hawk Hill articulating dope card holder and an RMR attached to the top of the Spuhr mount, and that all comes off together quickly by simply removing the Spuhr QR mount.

Not all stalks are suitable for precision shooting.

I purchased a Daniel Defense 6.5 Creedmoor AR-10 for long range precision shooting, needing also to check the box of getting multiple shots on target quickly. I love Daniel Defense. They make incredible firearms. But their AR-10 stocks are not suitable for rear bag work. This Magpul stock filled the void, near perfectly. It is well built, sturdy and robust. The dials to raise the cheek piece and extend the butt pad do not turn easily, and that is a good thing. It all stays were you last set it, waiting for you to square up to the gun and go for the mile. I say "near perfectly" only because the Magpul PRS does not look quite as cool as some of the stocks you can get on/for precision bolt guns. That is the void in the precision shooting industry, probably for two reasons. First and greatest, the charging handle of an AR makes it uniquely difficult, and second, there is a little bit of snootiness in the precision shooting industry toward "gas guns".
