The Prostaff 3-9x40 scope with BDC reticle is an excellent scope for the money. The key to using the scope; however, is learning what each BDC point is telling you under different conditions, ammunition, etc. Use the Spot-On software program that is provided by Nikon will greatly assist you in determining how your particular cartridge should respond under different magnification settings, environmental conditions, sight heights, etc. I say "should respond" because nothing is exact with the dynamics of shooting.

The scope itself is of quality construction, is easy to adjust for magnification and focus. The finger turret adjustments make elevation and windage adjustment simple. I especially like the "return to Zero" feature that allow you to add or subtract adjustment licks for a given distance and then quickly return to you zero distance setting. Clicks of adjustment are also provided in the Spot-On programs, ballistic reports. While I do find the BDC handy, I find myself using clicks of adjustment more often than not.

The eyepiece bell is thick and wide; this needs to be considered when mounting the scope on a bolt-action rifle. Unfortunately, this scope would not mount on a CZ 527M Carbine due to the outer dimension of the eyepiece bell, but worked great (with medium rings) on a Ruger American rifle.

Warne scope rings are, in my opinion, the best scope ring on the market in terms of value vs. cost. This particular ring was used on a CZ 527M Carbine and was the perfect height for a Leupold VX-1 3-9x40mm scope. With the screws tightened to the recommended 25 inch-pounds, the scope and rings become a solid unit. The finish is excellent and, in this case, matched the finish of the scope perfectly.

While Warne rings may be frustrating, because they have to be mounted to the scope before attaching the rings to the scope base, the mild frustration felt is worth the satisfaction of the completed project. I highly recommend these rings for your CZ 527M Carbine.
