The orange front sight really pops out in both daylight and low light conditions. The tritium insert makes it perfect for night time use. The Ameriglo front sigh is perfect because it's the same height as the factory Glock sights, so you can use most rear sights that are no tritium filled for a 'big bright' dot in the dark.
I haven't seen many reviews on the RTL lights for the Shield, so I bought it and decided to try it out. It's very compact and lightweight, and it's also pretty bright. The light pattern is wide so it covers the area in front of you pretty well. As for distance, anything from 5-15 yards is illuminated really well. Anything further is a bit darker but then you probably wouldn't be shooting that far in the dark with a carry pistol without the risk of being noticed because of the light, but ymmv.
The only negative thing about the light, which really isn't that bad so I still gave it 5 stars, is the PWM (Pulse Width Modulation). When the light is on, it has a slight high pitched hum to it that I can hear but others can't, and I can only hear it when it's absolutely quiet. The strobe has an even fainter hum but again most of my friends couldn't even hear it. It's the last thing that would bother me so I still gave the light 5 stars, but just be aware of the PWM on the Viridian RTL for the Shield (at last mine).
