After buying a Spyderco Pacific Salt for my son, which he loves, I decided that my preference would be one like it except slightly shorter for easier one-handed opening and closing; one that did not require me to adjust my hand position between opening it and using it. Then I found the Spyderco Salt 2 at Optics Planet: almost exactly what I had in mind. My initial hesitation about it was its unusual blade point and the blade thickness listed on the Spyderco website. I rationalized that for an Everyday Carry knife (EDC), its main purpose is for cutting, not stabbing, and I hoped the blade thickness listed was wrong since the photos did not support that the blade is that thin. And I was right: the rust-proof H1 blade is well proportioned and almost the same thickness as the Pacific Salt's blade. And it was razor sharp out of the box.

The knife is so light weight that it is virtually unnoticeable and perfect in that regard. Opening it was initially ok but is now as smooth as silk after working the blade, pivoting it back and forth, about a hundred times.

I have carried it for weeks and never had any issues with the pocket clip holding, which is strong yet easy to glide onto a front or back pant pocket hem. My only con involves the pocket clip, which positions the knife rather high and, with its bright stainless screws attaching the clip, exposes it to notice. There is a deep-carry clip available which I may try.

The blade lock has no play and the lock spring seems very strong
