Great sight, I should have read the details more closely

Written on Feb 23, 2022

This is a great little sight and certainly an awesome upgrade for a pistol or even a carbine. It's clear, the reticle is clean and has a couple of different options in terms of design. It's a very compact sight and feels like it'll be very tough. I like the auto-off and shake-awake technology, I turned it on and then just stopped thinking about it. Perfect. I'd thought, in fact I'd have sworn, that when I looked it up it said the mounting clamp machined into the base would grab a pic rail. IT DOES NOT. Naturally, someone asked that very question in the reviews and I didn't look it up until after I'd received mine. It would have been perfect mounted directly to the rail atop my new Volquartsen pistol, allowing me to co-witness the iron sights, but no, it doesn't even remotely mount to a picatinny rail without an adapter. Fortunately I found one, and while it's now got an ugly mount that raises the sight too high for co-witness, it's still great. I'm not sure why Holosun felt the need to machine a mount into the body of their sight that's apparently completely proprietary, but it is what it is. I'd certainly recommend it if you can find a nice, low-profile mounting option for whatever you want to attach it to.

Typical Trijicon Excellence

Written on Mar 17, 2016

I mounted this to my new Sig MPX. I wanted a red dot that would help with quick target acquisition and transition, and the 25mm lens is great in that regard. I have an Aimpoint Micro on one of my ARs, and while nice, it's a noticeably smaller window than the MRO. The view is crystal clear like every Trijicon I've used, and the dot is very crisp. I think it'd be fine on a rifle even for long shots, you wouldn't have to worry about a blurry dot throwing off your aim at longer, un-magnified, distances. The brightness has a wide variety of adjustments from not-visible-in-daylight to blazing. I haven't had it long enough to tell you if the battery will last for years while left on, but it's nice to know that it's designed that way. If it lasted even a single year while left on continuously that'd be pretty great, let alone five years. It's expensive, but good optics are typically worth it. Trijicon has made a name for being virtually indestructible, so combine that with perfect optical quality and $400-$500 doesn't seem so bad. Their customer service has always been great, in my experience, which is worth a lot if you ever have a problem If you're considering a red dot for a rifle or sub-gun, this is a great choice. It's a little larger than a Micro, but the view is substantially better.
