Just like my old one

Written on Sep 23, 2019

Needed this for 1911 8 round Wilson magazine. The material and workmanship is identical to a much older Accumold pouch for Browning HP. The two snap flap fits the extended mags of both pouches. A bit spendy at near $20.

Need a little "finishing"

Written on May 24, 2019

I have these grips on four revolvers. Two are S&W (34, 586) another Colt (Python) and last a Ruger Super Blackhawk. All four exhibited an uncomfortable "seam/rib" when assembled on all four handguns. I used a Dremel on the seams starting with a round fine stone and finished with a soft circular "brush". There is some change in the color but the surface is smooth and the increased comfort is much appreciated. .357 in the Colt and S&W 586 increased irritation with the seams and is noticeable in .38 Special as well. The .44 needs no comment. The 34 is a .22 RF of course and it got the "treatment" anyhows. The improvement in all four (yes even the 34) is well worth the minimal effort. I now give them 4.5 stars.

A Tad Bit Loose

Written on Feb 22, 2019

Great construction, materials. Have them on three Vortex scopes matching to Vortex's fit specs for each scope. Used Butler Creek in the past and they worked very well on Leupold scopes. Thought these would be the optimum for the Vortex. Would be five stars except..... they will not stay in place when opening. Both ends on the Strike Eagle do not fit tight enough to insure opening does not include complete removal from the scope or at minimum displacement enough to require re positioning. On the PST Gen II 1-6 they work a little better and would give them four stars on that scope. The third set is on the older 5-20 Razor and they get four stars on that scope as fast acquisition is not as critical. The material in the Vortex caps is superior to the Butler Creek caps and the Vortex seal better from the elements. The superior seal is perhaps the Achilles heel in that it is responsible for the displacement when opening the caps. If the cost was per Butler Creek I might raise the rating but I was willing to pay the extra cost for a better looking (which the Vortex are) and better fitting (not) than other caps. One could wrap some tape at both ends of the scopes to attain the tighter fit desired but that should not be required.

My Third Elite Survival

Written on Sep 13, 2018

Have two of the Elite Survival Rifle cases and this is my third Elite purchase...all from Optics Planet. This backpack is as described. Well made with tough material. I will be using it for air travel and off road on a motorcycle. My only disappointment is it being an import. I believe the two rifle cases were U.S. made or advertised as such. I did not note any reference to the backpack being an import (Vietnam). I must admit that the pack's quality seems to be equal to that of the rifle cases. Well pleased.

Works not much more to sat\y

Written on May 31, 2018

Replaced the original which snapped for no apparent reason, hence the three stars and the expectation this one may do the same. Went on with no trouble and the cost was reasonable. The original should not have failed as it is the first headband of any of my other muffs to fail and they did not cost $$$$$$

Much appreciated

Expensive for what it is. Really not much more to say other than it does install easily and does exactly as advertised. Power ring on this scope was very stiff and this throw lever is a must in my opinion. Scope was mounted on an FAL. I would not deem it as essential on something like a " varmint" type scope.

Does the job

Written on Jan 30, 2018

This was a gift. It is a cheap way to transport long guns. Not especially rigid but does allow the firearm to be locked up from prying little fingers. I needed to provide a way to secure firearms for someone without a safe and this did the job. It is not a case I would use for airline transportation. Good for a trip to the range, etc. I had hoped it would be a bit more "sturdy" but for the cost it was acceptable.

Could be a "Five"

Written on Nov 23, 2017

This is my second Elite Survival Systems Assault Rifle Case. My previous was for an FAL. Unlike the FAL case this one will not accommodate the Arsenal AK scoped with standard 30 rod mag. It will fit nicely with a ten round mag and scope. The FAL fits with the 20 round mag. Barely. I must assume the fit is for a rifle with scope/no mag or rifle w/mag and no scope. Another reason I am giving only a "4" is that the mag pouches do not really fit the standard 30 rd mags. The top velcro will close but they should be 1/2 to 3/4 inches longer. Twenty rounders fit nicely. The quality of materials and craftsmanship is five star. The rifle fit to the case is also a "5". There is no need for internal straps for my rifle. Optics Planet was very helpful in assisting me with the choice of this case.

It Works But Could Be Better

Written on Nov 01, 2017

Far more comfortable than the original wood grips on my S&W 586. However.... Did not like the open slot at the bottom. The same grip on my Python does not have this. Fit to the frame was pretty good but would be willing to pay a bit more for a nicer fit to my hand without the ridges where the grips join. A careful "adjustment" with an Xacto knife and a Dremel helps. Both the S&W and the Python feel much better for me than the original wood grips. The cost is minimal and the results are well worth it but "could be better".
