Still one of the best ootics out there

Written on Nov 22, 2024

You just can’t beat the EXPS series. I upgraded to an EXPS3 over an EXPS2 due to my frequent use of night vision and the added convenience of a single NV button. The EXPS3 is technically a higher tiered optic overall than the 2. The holographic reticle is unmatched in clarity, and the center dot is crisp enough to easily make hits on an IDPA target at 250-300 yards. The glass is perfectly clear and distortion free and provides a nice wide field of view. Holographic sights don’t have the battery life of an led based optic, but that isn’t a problem.

My favorite 1-6 LPVO

Written on May 03, 2024

I think this optic is the best value for the money. I trust Vortex and this scope performs above its weight class. You’re getting 80-90% of the Razor’s performance at less than half the cost. Amazing 1x clarity and almost invisible scope tube with a generous eye box. At 6x it’s very clear with minimal chromatic aberration or distortion. And the illuminated reticle is very bright. Brightest I’ve seen. I do wish it came with an integrated throw lever like the newer, cheaper models do. I imagine a Gen 3 will. I paired it with a Badger C1 mount and it’s my new favorite GPR optic. It’s also a little heavy compared to some of its contemporaries.

Handy, adaptable folding unit

Written on Feb 18, 2024

Being able to use either a brace or stock is a nice feature. It accepts multiple third party clamp-on braces. I went with the Double Star unit. To fold, you have to overcome spring pressure, which is quite stiff fresh out of the box. Unfolding is much easier, but has enough tension to stay folded without flopping. Length of pull is very short - being a “pistol brace” after all, similar to a PDW stock. You need a picatinny adapter, the folding unit, and a brace / stock, which is a little expensive once everything is added up, but that seems standard for a folding setup.

The perfect port cover for me

Written on Sep 20, 2023

I live in a very humid area and improperly treated steel tends to develop surface corrosion very quickly. With this cover, that is no longer a concern. I have equipped all of my rifles with these covers. They are also super easy to install and weigh practically nothing (even though the steel ones are light also).

I love my Midwest handguards

Written on Sep 16, 2023

I’ve got a variety of MI handguards that are amazing, and this one is no different. Very light for a 15” rail, but still incredibly rigid and solidly mounted. I’m using it for a 16” 6mmARC upper. Another great thing is how easy they are to install; the barrel nut, the locking tab, anti rotation tabs, included barrel nut wrench, what could be better.
