Update- Gas port is huge.

Written on Oct 09, 2023

So I took the upper apart and measured the gas port and turns out the .081 spec in the product description is totally wrong. Measured with calipers the port is .095-.096 which is as big as you can get on an AR. I ordered an adjustable gas block and will be hitting the range to see if it was actually overgased and just seemed to be undergased. I will check the brass for cloudy/dull appearance , ejection pattern and 1 round magazine test like I should have done on my first range trip and go from there. I sort of like the trouble shooting aspect of AR building so it's no big deal but It's nice when a build just works.

Gas port too small.

Written on Oct 08, 2023

Normal gas port range is .088-.095 for ARs and this one is .081 as it says in the specs and it's short stroking in my upper. I didn't measure it when it arrived and just put the upper together and went to the range and it's a single shot as of now. I recognized the cause right away cuz I had the same issue on a Ballistic Advantage Premium SS 16" barrel in the past so at least it didn't make me crazy diagnosing the issue. I looked at the product page and saw .081 and knew what it was at once. With the BA barrel I assumed the port was so small to mitigate the gas for suppressed applications where overgassing is often an issue but it said nothing about that in the description. Why a budget barrel would have this(on sale for 64$) I have no clue as good suppressors are 700$ and over but It is what it is. I'm getting ready to take my new upper apart and drill out the gas port with a 3/32 bit which will get me to .092 and should fix the problem. Fit and finish on this barrel is quite nice for the money and it shot reasonably accurate on my range trip. I do recommend this barrel but know the gas port is super small for some unknown reason so if you are new to AR building or don't have a decent workshop/tools to make this modification you are gonna have a bad time. But you will learn something along the way. Hopefully this saves someone some aggravation. Once this thing is running it's gonna be a beast.
