Great press but with a learning curve.

Review for
Hornady Lock-N-Load AP Package
To begin, this is my first turret-style press. I evaluated Dillon, looked at Lee, and read as much as I could spare time for. I've always liked Hornady products so decided to buy this press. It's been a learning process to say the least. The main challenge has been trying to keep track of all the processes that are going on pretty much simultaneously. In the beginning, I tended to forget about priming cases, causing spills and messes. Got that down to under 3/100 cases and still improving. Really, the press is well designed and made but could use more/better documentation. I know there are numerous YouTube videos, both from Hornady as well as everyone else that's ever used one, but I've yet to find a well authored and videoed one about the PTX inserts and the exact setup of the powder system - things like considerations for how to get the fit the PTX limiter. It's very sensitive to where and how you setup the top and bottom portions of the dispenser system. Still not sure it's in the right place - getting the expander insert for 9mm today and will see what that brings.
All in all, a great machine, though. Once you start to get the hang of it, it runs right along. Highly recommended - just take your time, do your homework, and you'll be fine. Don't force anything - if it jams, stop and figure out why and disassemble parts as needed to relieve the jam. I didn't once and broke one of the auto-indexing pawls. Easy fix but annoying!
Happy reloading!
