Cover for Rain, Wind, and Concealment

Written on Aug 24, 2024

First, let's manage expectations. This is NOT a permanent cover that will stand the test of time. It has an expiration date before it even gets out of the box. It is worth having, though. It provides protection from the wind and rain. It also offers concealment. There will be imperfections in it that may allow a drop or two inside.

It installs easily, and will last you at least one season. I have had my quad stand for 6 years and I am on my fourth cover. I wish they sold it without the roof kit, too.

I live in Oklahoma, and the wind here gets these covers eventually. The zippers break and the sun breaks it down. I don't hunt out of my quad without it. I have better and worse blinds.

My advice is to put this thing on, and then use baling wire to secure the bottom of it to the stand. The elastic cords may break, and the wind may blow it off. Then, hang baling wire from the roof frame, and close the windows so the zipper pulls are on top of the windows, and you can wire them shut. Otherwise, the wind will blow the windows open. Do the same with the door from the shooting rail. If you do that this will last longer. I had an owl take up residence when the door zipper broke!

It is adequate to provide some protection and concealment. It you have this you will keep buying them because it is definitely better to have it than not have it.

Manage your expectations!

Enhanced Gas Ring Doesn't Interface with BC Right, too loose

Written on Mar 14, 2022

The title says it all. This bolt is dimensionally correct (verified with calipers), but the enhanced gas ring is dimensionally smaller than the standard diameter of the normal three gas rings. It slides loosely in the BC. No bueno! I had to replace the rings to get it to work. So for the price, I could have orfered a complete BCG by another manufacturer. Instead of having to enhance the "enhanced" bolt with standard parts.

I was skeptical, but this is an excellent barrel!

Written on Mar 07, 2020

I wanted to use a carbon fiber barrel to save weight on my first Aero Precision M5 rifle build. I am a disabled vet, and weight savings is a big deal to me. I wanted a barrel longer than 20". I am an avid M1A fan, and it has a 22" barrel, and I wanted the same for my build since it will be used primarily as a deer rifle--personal preference.

I have seen mixed reviews on these barrels, so I proceeded with caution. Nobody had a .308 carbon barrel longer than 20", and if they did, they were out of stock. Proof Research was an extra $300 easy! I decided on the BSF barrel, and I am ecstatic after taking it to the range! My smallest groups measured 0.28 and 0.33 inches. My largest group was 0.9 inch. The ammo was Federal Gold Medal match 168 gr BTHP's.

I couldn't be happier with the barrel's performance. I reached out to BSF with questions, too, and they were quick to respond.

I would buy a BSF barrel again.
