Mag feed lips too thick - won't feed PSA KS47
Written on Mar 24, 2021
The FAB Defense AK-47 Survival Buttstock is pretty nice. There is more wobble than I would like to see on such a premium price item (good thing Optics Planet had these on a huge discount). The major flaw is the feed lips are too thick to allow the bolt to pick up and feed a round in the rifle I have - the PSA KS-47. I suspect this is an issue for all AR style rifles. I will have to get a magpul 10 round mag to replace the FAB one in the stock, and use the FAB one on my AK.

Not a fan of the 3-connected m-lok piece design

Magpul Industries M-LOK Hand Stop Kit
My hand is too big for the space between the stops and there's no modification possible to help. I ended up using the "back" stop turned around and on the front so now I pull it like a hook with my index finger. I like the texture of the m-lok covers and the plastic is good quality but this design is not great for me at all - it should be individual m-lok pieces rather than a strip of three.

Great for metal mlok - not for poly mlok

Vism M-Lok Slot Covers
I use these on a AR 5.56 pistol and a KS47 7.62 rifle. They install and remove with ease, and don't fall out during shooting. I find the texture to be just right, and they help a lot with heat.
I tried them on a magpul AK47 hand guard and they fell out during shooting because the slot covers don't go deep enough to catch and lock on the inside of the thicker plastic.
I've ordered three of these and will get more. I have only used the black ones and they really look like original equipment when matched with black metal floating handguards.

Great fit on PSA AK-74. Have not range tested yet.

UTG Pro Quick Detach AK Side Mount
Out of the box, I have to say the UTP Pro AK Side Mount is better than expected. It is light weight, seems quite robust, and the finish has no flaws. It went right on the PSAK-74 like a glove. The QD is tight and I don't think it will move when fired. The top pic rail has 16 positions and is perfectly straight with a deep gutter to view the iron sights through - but is is off-center to the right by a couple of mm. I can remove and replace the dust cover with the side mount attached. I'm planning on mounting some kind of LPVO scope on it and it looks like it will be a great fit. The side pic rail can be removed, which is good because I have no use for it. Hopefully, it will hold zero and withstand the AK-74 recoil - if so it is a 5-star product for the ~forty bucks asking price.

Lots of utility, backpack straps not great

VISM Double Carbine Gun Case, 36-42in
I got the 42" Double carbine bag in olive drab. At the price, I am very satisfied. There are more zippered picked than I can even use. The fabric, zippers, and velcro are all good quality. I fit two carbines, a folded sub2k, and four pistols in it with room to spare. Pockets hold a lot of ammo. The problem is that it can hold so much that it gets too heavy for the backpack straps. When loaded up, it is not only difficult to put on your back, but the sewing threads started to fail at the shoulder connection. I didn't buy it for the backpack ability, so I might just cut the straps off to keep them out of the way.

Huge improvement to krink device on PSA AK-P

NcSTAR AK-47/74 Muzzle Brake w/Adapter
I had zero problem at all with the threading on the NcStar AK muzzle brake. I removed the krink brake that came on my AK-P, lubed the threads, and this brake went right on. Stays put with set screw which comes with blue locktite. This comes with an adaptor, but the AK-P already has an adapter that the NcSTAR brake is compatible with.
With this muzzle brake, the huge amount of flip I was getting with the krink is greatly reduced. I mean, it is a huge improvement in target reacquisition and overall shooting comfort. Also of note, the huge fireball I was getting with the krink is reduced to what I would call a "normal" muzzle output.
For the price and simplicity of installation, this is an absolute no brainer. I was going to get the shorter $50 one from IvanTheBear but this one is perfect.
Bonus points for looking way cooler than the krink, also.
