Six months review

Written on May 10, 2017

I am using this mount (and sight) on a Wilson Combat .45 and after six months (probably 10-15 range visits) I noticed that the adapter was wiggling in the slide and with a push from me it actually would come off the gun. I took it to my favorite gunsmith and he drilled a small dent for the lock screw to set into and added fresh lock-tite. Otherwise this adapter is excellent. It keeps my JP RDS low and is as close to milling the slide as possible, without milling the slide. I do need one shim under the sight.
I anticipate perfect results after the recent modification.

Red Dot on CZ75, a good product

Written on Aug 03, 2016

I found a dove-tail adapter for the Burris on a CZ75 so I bought this sight. Installation was easy and zeroing also went smoothly. I took the CZ to the range today and set up 5" square targets at 10', 21', 30', 45' and 60'. I fired at what I would call a controlled rapid rate. All the rounds at 10' went through a single hole. At 21' and 30' all the rounds penetrated the 5" target and at 45' and 60' half the rounds were in the 5" square even though the red dot covered the entire square.

I expect the sight to hold zero. I use the "automatic" brightness control and was in a fairly dark indoor range. I will take the CZ outdoors next week and see how it does in bright sun.

I am a satisfied customer. I am giving the Burris 4 stars until I see battery life plus I am not loving the 5 click switch (Off-Auto-High-Medium-Low-Off). When carrying I will keep the sight switched on in the automatic mode so I want to establish an average period for battery changes.

I'll bet you'll need a shim or two

Written on Jul 31, 2016

Please see my review on the shims for this sight. I would give it 5 stars if it originally includes a shim or two in the box. I didn't appreciate having to order one separately.
The sight is very compact and light in weight. Performance has been excellent both times I have been to the range since installation on my 1911.
The need to remove the sight in order to change the battery is my only negative, but this does permit the low profile. I do not anticipate changing batteries very often, time will tell.
I like that it is "always on". Again time will tell how often a battery change is required. Even if it had a power switch I would keep it always on when carrying.

Probably a "Must Have"

Written on Jul 31, 2016

Once the decision is made to go with the JPoint red dot sight I would speculate that one or more of these shims will be needed to obtain the "zero" you are looking for. The sight has a very limited internal elevation adjustment (1 degree) and I needed one shim for my setup with the adapter plate replacing my rear sight. Perhaps a "melt in" installation might have gotten away without a shim. Buy a 5 shim kit along with the sight and you will be ready for just about any arrangement.

I've only had the sight to the range twice and so far I am very satisfied with its performance.
